What do you think is the most effective governor setup for a stock 226 motor?
Weight changes? Spring changes? Leave it alone, use the stock stuff. RPM limited to 2000 3.5 MPH class |

For just 2000 rpm's I would just add the D17 spring.

So a D17 (Any of the series different?) and WD45 governors would respond similarly if the same spring was used?
How about the "E" combine ones? How do they respond under load?

Once it's loaded so much the throttle is wide open so combine or tractor ain't gonna matter.My experience with combine weights in a stock 226 were that it was a litte "jumpy" when a quick load happened.This was only part throttle situations.kinda hard on the bush hog drive line and since my wife does a lot of that I thought it better to put std weights back in.

I got a governor spring for our pulling CA at a hardware store. It measured the same length And I get right at 2200 rpm @WOT. Probably just got lucky but the price was right, I think about .70 cents or so. Just a idea. I have a D17 spring on my WD but paid DEARLY for it and said I would not do that again. Just what I did tho, ideas ideas, ideas! dan

I have a D15 spring on my B which makes it nice and snappy. My CA has a hardware #171 spring and it also performs better. These are easy to mess with since they are external.
I tried some aftermarket (Hardware) springs in my D17 and I didn't like them. When I went to put the stock spring back in the aftermarket ones were stretched! Lucky it didn't break. The D17 runs 1650 RPM as is so I will leave it alone as I do other things with it than pull. Everyone searches for the perfect setup so I thought I would see what the opinions are.

I don't think so, You can also use a 170 spring but it will turn a little more. I have a combine engine in our 45 with the combine governor with a 170 spring, and it will turn 2200. Linkage on the throttle is set to high idle at 2000, when the load hit it comes alive!

175 gov spring from agco is about $40,leave the weights alone,you won't regret it,engine will spin about 2000 rpm no-load-now go have fun!

Lighten the weights will let them open at a lower RPM. The E combine weights have a steeper ramp which will let them open quicker. MACK
