Have a 1950 AC WD.. She was recued from the weeds about 3 years ago. I am bought her from a buddy of mine and he just uses her for farm work as I will also until I restore her. My question is thus. When raking hay fields on level ground she spits and spoters bu when going up hill or putting more of a load on her she runs like a new machine! Is this a govenor issue? Also he does not have the air breather hooked up so that could be an issue.. Well any way.. I have fallen in love with the old orange girl unlike any other tractor..

sounds like just some carb. work needed. I would definitly not run it long without the air breather hooked up. You'll grow to love her even more over time. Enjoy JCinPA

Pull the carb off, and clean out the dust and crud. The carb is a Marvel-Schebler, and has an 'economizer' circuit that under low-load conditions, leans out the mixture... there's probably field dust stuck in there, hence, the sputtering.
Realize that the dust you're allowing in, is highly abrasive, and gets jammed in around the rings... running it without the air-cleaner, particularly in field work, causes it to wear very rapidly.

Thanks I figured that could be an issue.. I will order a breather cap! also can I just make hose or is it better to get a hose from a allis dealer?

A breather hose can be purchased from your local auto parts dealer that will work. Make sure that you purchase a radiator hose that has the wire reinforcing inside as the plain ones have a tendency to collapse. You will have to cut it to lenght though. Make sure that you check the oil level in the breather cup also.

OK I will try to figure it our.. not real mechanical and new to this old of a tractor butwill get it figured out ,!! Thanks!!
