how in the world do you get it to stop leaking...took the radiator off..cleaned both surfaces..checked for cracks...new hoses....put back on and everything is good except lower hose leaks between hose and water pump....moved clamp....leak changed positions(no longer drips into my bucket now) i used 1 1/2" hose..is it supposed to be smaller? seems like the clamp bunches it up a little

I don't know what size it is supposed to be but if it slid on real easy it's too big. There should be a ridge around the water pump fitting. You should have to force it past that. Once you get the hose past that ridge you keep going till you can clamp it behind the ridge.If your hose is bunching up. I would think it might need an 1 1/4" hose. There should not be any "bunching" up.

Well here I go again (and that's how I get in trouble) I'm thinking 1 1/2" Top is like 8" long and lower is 6" long. That's going off a old head full of numbers. lol
Did you put new clamps on and are they good clamps or the five and dine store type.

If the hose is the correct size, try putting some grease on the inside of the hose where it mates to the radiator and water pump.

I checked both my parts and service manuals - no clues there as to proper hose diameter.
Similar thought to OO except that I used gasket sealer. I'd say that if there's any bunching the hose diameter is too large....try 1.25" - you've got little to lose!

WD45 is 1.5". If you are having this much trouble, my best advice is be very gentle with the lower radiator end, it cost a lot more money and time to stop that end from leaking, can you guess how I know that? I am guessing water pump coroded or hose o/s?

i don;t think it's bunching bad...could just be front extra tightening of the clamp because i am frustrated....we did put grease on the inside of the hose and on the water pump pipe....guess the radiator will have to be drained and come off again....i will try some permatex this time...this is getting old fast

Jeff.....one more thought. Sounds as though there may be a "valley" or some metal missing (corrosion?) on the water pump pipe. Might try cleaning it up really good and building up any missing metal with something like JB Weld. I used this to fill a valley that was leaking oil out from the side plate on my WC engine - worked well. HTH

i will look and give it a shot..thanks......now to figure out how to drain the water this time without making a mess! last time it made a mess.....and while were at it...how do you guys ever get these allis's to stop leaking..i am begining to think they are like harley's, always marking there spots. replaced the wc oil pan gasket twice...still leaks..especially when loading on a trailer

Jeff, Sounds like you have a sand hole or corrosion spot on the water pumps inlet. Antifreeze creeps through anything, so if there is a pinhole or a thin spot, that antifreeze will find it and leak through. Had that on "Alice" my ole' B. Had it apart a few times, finally said the heck wit' it and installed a new pump. Done! So far she's been good goin' on 8 years. That reminds me, its time for a good coolant flush for her....

Are you sure you do not have a leaking water pump seal, because if it is it will leak down the lower radiater hose,,,Wayne

Run it long enough to see coolant dripping, shut it down and reach in to do a feel test on the pump - if it's wet above the radiator hose, likely the seal.

coolant has a slow drip all the time....even when not running or hasn't run in a few days it still leaks...i'll check it out hopefully tonight or tomorrow
