They aren't in my opinion. That B&S logo is misleading and probably illegal use of the logo. I bought one of these el cheapo carbs for $50. I did not have very high expectations for the price. I disassembled it and found a section of the casting was very rough on the bottom half of the carb where it meets the upper half. For as little as it cost, rather than go through return shipping, I dressed it out with JB weld and will file it smooth so it won't leak. Another problem is the throttle shaft. It does not have the nylon insert built into it, yet the hole is just as large as if it did, so the throttle link fits very sloppily. You can't use B&S parts in these carbs, so they tell me. The threads are likely metric. They are made to be disposable. You would also have to replace your choke cable because the B-Series cables will not reach the outside of the carb where the lever is located. There is no hole for the choke cable on the choke lever so you would have to drill a hole for that. By the time you make all the changes you would be just as well to repair an OE Briggs carb or buy the Briggs carb for $100-$150.

The most common issues I see with the original carbs is the upper half becomes warped or the main nozzle threads on the lower half become damaged. I have had success re-tapping the threads to save the lower halves. The top halves are available new from Briggs and come complete with the throttle shaft. One for a 16hp B&S ( # 299687) runs around $35.00 brand spanking new and will renew that old carburetor.
