I need to replace the hose from the air cleaner to the carb. Service manual says to use only the hose provided by AC as radiator hose will collapse. Parts manual lists it as #226266. I've used radiator hose on other tractors but the run is much shorter. Do you guys agree with the collapsing business and is that part # still available? Thanks.

just get a radiator hose with the wire in it. or you can slip the wire spring in the hose of your choice. I have been running one like that for over 20 years

sometimes I walk out to my shop and look around and think "Who's the idiot that owns this place?"

It's been way too long but I think there's spring like spiral wire inside the hose to keep it from collapsing.

Thanks, guys. I noticed in the parts book that the WD45 hose has a different part # vs. the WD hose....I suspect that styled WC and WD use the same hose. One thing about the price.....local auto parts stores will only sell radiator hose in standard lengths - I think minimum is 3 feet - and the cost gets up into the upper teens. So the agco price isn't too nasty in comparison, and maybe I can talk myself into spending the bucks.

I bought a piece of what appears to be flexible aluminum hose (reinforced with internal wire) for my WD at a local auto parts store. Cost less than $10. Works great.

Why is there never time to do it right the first time, but always time to go back and fix it?

I used a radiator hose from an auto parts store and I haven't had any problems. It doesn't have any wire reinforcement.
Just get a section of radiator hose with the proper amount of preformed bend already in it, then cut both ends to the correct length. I wouldn't use a straight piece, then bend it because it will kink.
My piece of hose has been on the tractor for years and hasn't started to deteriorate.

I can not tell the difference in the $34.45 hose and the $16. Advance Auto, Dayco B71598 that can make 2 hoses, 98% close to original. Maybe someone else makes that hose heavier, never checked? You can search their rack and find a piece that will make 2 hoses if cut in half. If it gets weak, replace it every 2 years with a new shiny clean one for 1/4 the price of AC.
I have heard they collapse, but working hard or dyno, mine won't. |

Thanks, everyone! I ended up talking with Albert at Dean Ag and ordering the AC part.......partly as an experiment to see first hand just how it compares to an off-the-rack part at a car parts store. Will let you know what I find out.

I wasted 34.45 to see the difference. I can except the cheapo for all except perfect restorations, I didn't give myself a citation.

Though it's not correct, I use the hose from auto parts stores that you find on all 95 and later vehicles. Comes in various sizes, is expandable metal with spiral wire core and works great.
