SOG Specialty Knives just reinforced my choice of carrying one of their multi-tools on my belt for the past eight years or so. I broke the pliers by doing something they were not designed to do. I sent the tool in for repairs & they not only replaced the pliers, but also the file, knife blade, & one screwdriver blade, and also installed a square driver blade that the tool did not originally have. They returned it cleaned, oiled, & the new knife blade sharpened all in a new leather sheath. NO CHARGE!!
In years past I carried & lost a couple of the original Leatherman tools, & also tried a Gerber for a while. I really liked the Gerber but it was a finger pincher. If buying new today I would consider another SOG or the Leatherman "Wave", but I hope that my refurbished SOG is with me for years to come. I've felt naked the past three weeks without it!

Kip: I have "several" of the Leatherman tools ( Pick up, van, belt, tractor, fishing box) and they have proven their worth over the years.. When you mentioned that they did a freebee in fixing etc, I had the same thing with a Buck Knife that I tried to use as a pry bar...broke the tip off and they took that 25 year old knife and put a new blade on it and shined it up like new...

I like my leatherman wave, sure is nice with the rounded edges. The old ones were to sharp on the edge, it was hard to use the pliers.

I know it's an import, but my wife got me a Victorinox Swisstool 5 years ago for Christmas because my Leatherman was coming apart. I've beaten the crap out of it(literally, i've used it for a hammer), used it for a prybar(it's got a crate opener), used the crate opener with the tool opened up and a big adjustable wrench on the handle to break screws loose, used the pliers for anything you can think of, dropped it onto concrete from 50' up on a crane, submerged it in water and muck, used it on battery terminals, and many other acts of abuse, and the only thing broken is the very tip of the awl. I was using it to pry something rusted out of it's home, and the tip just snapped right off. Other than that, it's great. All of the locking devices and back springs are still as tight as the day I got it. The knife blades are fairly easy to sharpen and hold an edge well. The nylon case is starting to show through at the bottom. I may have to get another case for it, but I think it will be around awhile. I am very impressed with it, and I have had Gerbers, Leathermen, and various others over the years(never tried the SOG units).
