   I have a cylinder head that is 3" thick, with tall rocker pedestals, plugs in the ends of the shaft instead of corks, and spring clips instead of cotter pins. There is a small line that hooks up to the rocker shaft fitting.

I robbed a 4" thick head off a WD, which has short pedestals, corks in the ends, cotter pins, and the line does not attach to the rocker shaft via a fitting, but was just stuck into the rocker shaft. The shaft is also broken.

My plan is to use the rocker shaft with the fitting on it and plugs in the end, and use the rockers and pedestals from the WD engine.

Do all these parts interchange, or am I missing something? I'm assuming the different height pedestal make up for the 1" difference in cylinder head thickness.

Why are there two different head thicknesses anyways?

	If both shaft O.D. is the same I beleive it would work. But you would have to put that modified rocker arm setup on the 4" tall head because the tall pedestals/stands are used with the short head and the short stands are used with the tall head because the pushrods are the same length. The tall 4" head came out mid WD production and my understanding was it provided better cooling and moved the spark plug directly in the center of the cylinder. the 3" short head would be original for your WC.

	Well, tonight I may have discovered why the rocker shaft is broken..... one of the pedestals is different than the rest! It measures the same height overall, but the hole for the shaft is in a different place! You can see the gap in this picture. And no, flipping it over doesn't fix it. There is also a groove in the pedestal that the other three don't have. When you compare them side by side, its pretty obvious. Sure enough, ran outside and looked at the cylinder head, the far right stud has a washer on it to take up the space. Is this something common, are there more varieties than just the short and tall pedestals, or is this a farmers fix? So, if anyone has a short pedestal laying around, I am currently in the market for one, or a set. They measure approximately 1.940" overall. I'd just as soon have all four the same, I think.
