Had something strange today. I have a 720 with a loader, my wife and I loaded four 8 ft. tables and some folding chairs on the loader, I have a couple of heavy angle irons on the bucket that I use to move brush with when trimming trees. We got the tables and chairs loaded at the garage and I was going to move them to the basement, but as I started to move the 720 it suddenly would not steer, the steering wheel would turn but the front wheels would not turn they just stayed in the direction they were in. The steering has not been loose and sloppy.
Has anyone had this happen? I wonder if maybe a pin somewhere could have sheared?

Is the bolt still in the steering wheel where it goes on the shaft...right above the controls.   Don't ask me why I ask this.   LOL Den

I should have said that the steering shaft turns all the way down to the steering gear box.
I did not check if the shaft going into the gear box is turning.

Dusty, looks like in manual the universal joint attaches to gearbox. It would either be splined, keyed or bolted. It really doesn't show. I think the steering box is the same as a Chevy Vega, not sure though. They seem to be a pretty tough setup. Loader has probably put stress on it, but I would have thought looseness showing up before complete failure. JMHO Tracy

I ordered a new one off e-bay $114.
Looking at my service manual, it's a strange looking system.
I read is several places that is is the same as the Vega. And all the pictures look like it.
Could have ordered one for power steering, would have been nice with the loader, but I don't know what else it would take to make it work. And don't have time right now to make it work.

I thought the same when I first removed the box outta' my 620. Looked just like a Vega box like Tracy said in shape and bolt splay. Used many Vega boxes in my hotrods with cross steer steering and a tube axle.

Over on the SimplicityAC site there is instruction on installing the power steering box.
