Hello everyone,
I'm looking at a 9650 AGCO Allis. It's a 1994, serial #941030, 7130 total hrs. with 2000 of those hours on second engine, engine is the air cooled Deutz, 1000 PTO, full front weights, 14.9 x 30's in the front, 18.4 x 42's in the rear w/ duals, good condition--clean and straight inside and out, shop that put engine in 2 years ago also did $3000 worth of trans. work but I don't know what they did, it's an 18 speed pwr. shift. I don't know anything about these and was wondering if anyone could tell me the pro's and con's of this potential deal. They are asking $34750 for the tractor now, that's reduced some from first price as they have had the tractor on the lot for a while. Also the the shop told me it dyno's out at 190 H.P. and that most of them they work on do even though the "book" says that tractor is rated less H.P. than that. Any input would be appreciated.

Only 5,000 hours out of an engine before it had to be replaced? I thought the air cools were tough?

I always heard the same thing Charlie--tough motor, good longevity etc--maybe somebody didn't keep the fins clean?

I cant say anything as to the good or bad, but i know around here resale really is terrible on those tractors with the deutz. so Personally id would want to try to buy at wholesale price on something like that rather than retail, so if you ever want to trade you dont loose as much.

Thanks ac45, I agreee but I don't know what that price would be or how to find out, all I know is local dealer has had for a while and come down in their ad from 37 or 38000 to 34750. Not sure what to offer?

I dont think that the price is out of line if the tractor looks good. I think the last 9630 MFWD that I sold had 5000 hrs and short axle ( NO DUALS ) for $37 but that has been a year or so. This tractor is bigger with long axles and duals, but does have a few more hours.

I have a 9690 with the Deutz and I think it is one of if not the best running engines out there. I also think they are underrated in H.P.
Yall say "just 5000 hours", well any fool can ruin a engine. They all have to have some care. Thats like saying a two year old car should not have been wrecked and blame it on the car. I have seen these Deutz with over 10000 hours on them. The Deutz would not make me spend less on it if I liked it.

I've had two bad experiences with that model FWA tractor and both tractors were engine issues (blown head gaskets/leaking compression between jug and cyl head). When configured as an FWD and a lot of tires(traction), the engine is worked too hard continuously and HP should have been left at 130 instead of 155 (kind of like a 7580 AC)Also the park lock inside was weak and expensive to fix. Good luck, because once you buy the Deutz, it's yours.

You can do what you want but for 35 grand I would want a tractor with a lot less hours on it than 7000. I have a 9670 FWA and it has been a very good tractor. I was told the bigger engine of 9670 and 9690 are more reliable than the smaller engine of the 9630 and 9650.Dr. Allis is right, the smaller engine has to work hard all the time. I think the cubic inches are 379 for the small motor and 584 for the big one.

I leased a 9650 like the one you are looking at a few years ago. I found it to be a very nice tractor to run and super fuel efficient. Having been around Deutz air cooled in a previous industry in desert conditions, I am a strong believer in these engines as they were essentially bullet proof. However, in this case, this tractor is at least $5K overpriced in my view considering the number of hours. Best of luck, if you buy it right, you should be happy with it.

A 9635 sold at auction today with 2700 hrs for 28 or 29000. Front wheel ast. 42" tires and dules. MACK
