So i found a nice 917 on cl for a hnudred bucks no motor though but i have a junk murry in the garage its a 90s one with a 12hp briggs think i could do and engine swap?

Nope, won't work. The 917 uses a horizontal shaft engine and the Murray uses a vertical shaft engine.
