I know the height of the hitch point is important and our association allows a 20" maximum.  Does it make a difference on getting more weight transfer to the rear of the tractor if the hitch point is closer to the rear axle or moved back farther while keeping it at a 20" height?  We're trying to make the front end lighter.  Thanks.

If the hitch is longer, the pivot point changes and will loft the front end sooner.
My D17 likes a longer hitch

OKOK I get the longer drawbar making it lighter so why is it nobody has a max length but everybody has a minimum length of 18 from center of rear to hook point just wondering

More weight has to be applied to the drawbar which transmits to the rear wheels to lift the front when the drawbar is shorter. More weight on the rear wheels is a traction advantage.

Think about it. If your drawbar was at 18 inches in length and Godzilla put his foot on the drawbar, he would have to push down pretty hard to get the front wheels to leave the ground. If the drawbar was at 30 inches long he would not have to push down nearly as hard with all other things being the same.

If you are running an 18 inch long drawbar and the front wheels are flat on the ground, then you need to remove weight from the front somehow to make it work. The 18 inch minimum rule is there for a reason.
