WC crank bearing shims

Are these still available or do you have to make your own? Tore my engine down today, all the rod shims are gone, 1 left on the mains.Thanks, JM

After encouragement from Dick L, I just made main bearing shims tonight for a B engine. I did a google search on brass shim stock and came across a conversation on this subject on Smokstak website for hit'n'miss engines and that K&S has the brass 4" x 10" sheets in various thickness. I found my local Hobby Lobby carries this and got a sheet of .01" for 6.99 and .005" for $3.69 tonight. Traced one of the old shims and will finish cutting them tomorrow. I took 2 pieces of 1" oak scrap and drilled a hole in one board-lined up the traced bolt hole in the shim stock with the hole in the board-clamped the boards together to hole the sheet of shim and drilled the bolt hole for the shim. Then cut the rest of the pattern with heavy pair of sissors. For the .005" size, you can cut them out with a new blade in a utility knife.

Agco has these yet, but for mains are $5.05 each and 3 something for rod bearing shims. I know this because as Dave Ramsey would say "I paid my Stupid Tax" ;)

Google K & S and they have a store finder on their website. I went to what I thought was an "old time" auto supply store and they laughed at me when I asked for some shim stock.

McMaster also has much of the K&S line which is most commonly found in hobby shops and some hardware stores.

on second thought this is jm the one who pulls? I would have my crank offset ground to a smaller rod that doesnt use shims and gain the stroke .

	I think the shims are still available. I made my own because I had access to brass shim stock. Many people have line bore the block and re-sized the rods and completely done away with the shims.

	Be money ahead to replace the rod bolts and have the rods sized so you dont need shims. jmho
