Whenever we needed something that wasn't available off the shelf, we used these guys. We cut a blank for them and the bosses Dad or somebody would drive it down. They call back when it's done. Usually pretty quick turn around and never had a problem matching up to other gears. http://www.southsidemachine.net/

Called atlas and no trouble to make a set for 3rd gear spot. Just need to locate original set of gears and ship the to atlas for a pattern. Now searching tractor junk yards.

If you're thinking of making 3rd gear faster than 4th gear direct, you cannot. The only way to do that, is to change the input shaft/gear and the front countershaft gear to speed up the total transmission. So, you need four new custom gears made, if you want 3rd to be faster than 4th.

Dr. That's some bad news right there!!!! Yes atlas said to count input gears teeth and diameters to see if one set has clearance.

So a guy could send the third gears out to those people and get the reduction between first and second?

The OEM input gears on a 180 - 200 are 19 driver and 35 driven. Theoretically to get a gear equal to direct drive you would have to have a 3rd gear pair of 35 driver and 19 driven. To go faster than direct, you would have to have 36 driver and 18 driven for example on the 3rd gear pair using the stock input gears. This would make the 3rd pair driven gear too small in diameter to fit the main pinion shaft. About the smallest tooth count gear you can have in that spot is 21 teeth and that's cutting things close. 22 teeth is safe.
That's what the Doctor is saying. You have to change both input gears (and shaft) and 3rd gear pair (4 gears and one shaft total) to get and increase in speed of close to direct or faster in ANY of the transmission locations. The exception would be installing an overdrive gearbox ahead of the transmission. A possibility would be having only input gears and a shaft made that overdrive the transmission dramatically. I doubt that is possible. |

Due to the major rain, had a lot of time to investigate trying to have 2 Pullin gears. The Dr. brought up a good point and there's no room!!! Having 4 gears made would be the cost of my complete tractor. So the easiest fix would be to change PD driving and countershaft gears and run high range. Lot more room just still only 1 gear. I'm no math wizard but a 0.681 to1 will put me at 25 to 1 and there simple gears, no shift collars ect ect. The problem is I have a regular 7 to 5 job and a family so to be able to keep my hobby all work has to be performed by me. IM A CHEAP OLE BOY!!!! Thanks for this site and its members for all the extra help. I've come a long way sinse its first hook and I can say it's not store bought!!!
