Anyone know what the application is for a Fairbanks Morse K4B might be? Seems to be just a tad larger than a FMJ 4B3. Do coils, points interchange? TIA

The K4B is older than the J and was used on many AC's when it was the current model. In the pictures of my grandpa's RC from when it was new it's easy to see it has the K series. The J series is smaller mostly because the magnet in the rotor is newer better magnetic material. I think a J coil can be used in a K housing, it doesn't fit quite right but works. The K coil will not fit in a J housing though. I don't think any other parts are the same either.

Tom is right on wit' dat. The original "K" series coils with the tower top are getting tough to find anymore. The "J" style coil will work. Doesn't fit real good as Tom said, but it'll git' the job done......

The K4B I have has the original coils and points. It works, but the spark is not very strong. Not sure what I will do with it yet. Thanks for all the responses
