I'm going to look at a '60 D 17 this weekend. It looks pretty clean in the pictures. Needs a starter and it has combine wheels. I've only e mailed with the wife and she hasn't explained why it has those wheels. I'm looking for a cultivating tractor, which this one will fit the bill, except for the wheels. Asking price is $1000. Any thoughts? (please don't buy it out from under me!!)

Power adjust rims are very expensive to replace when calcium chloirde leaks and eats the original rim. Therefore, farmers went for a cheap alternative - combine wheels. $1000 is a fair price if it has decent sheet metal and runs alright. Make sure the tranny does not jump out of gear.

As per previous post, for $1000 you should jump on it. If worst case, it can be parted out for that or more.

If you are planning to do row cultivation, 14.9 x 38" rears work great. I got a pair of power shift rims from a Massey 65 High Arch (identical to A-C D-17 factory option) for my D-17 IV diesel.

My Granddad put some JD combine wheels on his WD that was dedicated to his mounted cornpicker. If I recall, he needed tires and rims, and this was SO much cheaper...it sure looked odd with yellow wheels on it!
