Sickle mower

   Can you guys tell me what to look for in a sickle mower for my WD?  I found one on Craigslist near by, I think it is a mounted model.  The seller doesn't know model number, and can't get a picture for a week or so.  Would a sickle mower do a decent job clipping a pasture type field once a month or so through the summer?  How short will they mow?  Is a mounted mower easier to set up and use than a trailer type?  What is a fair price for mounted and trailer type mowers in good shape?

	A sickle mower will work good for the occasional cutting of a pasture. That's what I use mine for. It will cut very short if you don't push the shoes up. There was talk on here a week or so ago about a metal wheel kit for some of the sickle mowers to help keep the blade up to cut higher. I'm sure you could fab one up. It depends on what type of mower it is as far as mounting. I would think a mid mount type mower would be a real pain to take on and off vs. a rear mount mower or a trailer type. I have an 82R mower, and it works really well, although if I get it on this year, I am going to get new sickles or a whole new cutting bar for it. I paid $300 for mine, but it was in good running order and all I had to do was mount it, and that was a couple years ago. I think a trailer type mower would be really easy to use, and be convenient if you're going to use the tractor for alot of different things in the summer.

	I know it's not orange but New Idea built a trailer one that had a trip rope, like a plow, that raised and lowered the sickle bar. The PTO had to be running. Our neighbor had one that had a tall shoe that raised the cutter bar up a ways for clipping pasture. Dusty
