Have a Fairbanks Morse magneto x4R3 that has ALLIS CHALMERS stamped on it . Was this rare or was it put on certain years ? gjralls

I have that one on the 37WC but I think it was a retrofit. Steve B said it was a later FM design.

The last Mag that Fairbanks offered was the "X" series. (FMX4B3) This version replaced the "J" series Mag which had its issues. The "X" is the revised version, which is the best of the bunch for reliability, mainly because the fiber timing gear was moved to the breaker plate, which eliminated the bushing and dust cover failures in the "J" series units.
