4-18s heavy ground
ps- what gear? 5? also- trouble getting into 6th- is there an adjustment on the cable?

I would think that with 4-18's and an 8010 you'll be able to go about as fast as you want to. A good rule of thumb, (I use anyway), is you'd like to be close to 4mph, or maybe a little better, for field work. And, when doing heavy work you want the engine, (especially the 301 in the 8010), to be at higher RPM's, (usually 2000 or greater). At least some higher RPM so your not lugging the engine all the time. So rev her up and put her in whatever gear gets you close to 4 mph.
