    Posted: 10 Mar 2010 at 2:16pm
Have recently acquired nicely restored D14 and think the wrong decals are on it. My "Allis Bible" is currently hiding on me so could use some help. The S/N is 20982 (making it a 1959 model?), has the Black bar silver mesh grill, and has a 12 volt positive ground electrical system. I think it should have the silver emblems and oval D14 on it.

Got lucky and do not have much to do with this one....and did not have to travel any to get it into my shop! The previous owner (a neighbor) rebuilt the engine (out of frame), new gages (including hour meter), rebuilt electrical, good rubber, then had everything sand blasted then he primed and painted it with automotive quality paint. Am sure he spent more restoring it than what I paid him for it. Unfortunately, he forgot about keeping ground paths free of paint and I am currently chasing down some electrical issues (got the starter issue resolved, am now working out the charging circuit issue). Will post some pics of the tractor after the electrical issues are corrected.

Greg, I have an 59 D14 with origianal decals, Ive painted it, but the decals are original.  It has the rectangular allis chalmers and D14 with black letters on a white background.  That tractor was sold to the city of Smithland, Iowa brand new by my Uncle Bud.  They traded it back to him for a 180 Diesel, he kept it at his house.  My cousin gave it to me after her Dad passed away.  HTH

Greg, Sounds like an OUTSTANDING unit.  Can't wait to see pictures.
Skip is correct about the hood decals.  Don't forget the D-14 oval Decal.
Good Luck!

Thanks Skip. Found the reference: page 77 of Terry Dean's book states "Prior to serial number 18230, the tractor is painted Persian Orange with orange wheels and grille, plus silver rear rims. The hood transfers are silver. Beginning in 1959 at serial number 19001, the all orange grille was changed to silver with black horizontal bars and border, and the hood transfers are white with black letters. The black-bar grille appeared on 5,050 units."

Guess the applied decals are correct (even tho the D14 is not placed on the under tank panels) and I like the looks of the Silver and Oval better.

Greg, this is SN 19299 as original as it gets from 1959.  It has the rectangular D14 decal on each hood shield just below the bead, and close to the gas tank.  I'll have more pictures without the loader once I get the engine put back together and installed.

Below are some photos of the new to me D14. Think it will look well next to my CA lawnmower, rehabbed D12, original D14, D15, D17, and D19D.

Got the electrical grounds cleaned up and it now starts great. Charging is intermittant according to the ammeter; however, that could be due to the battery being fully charged.
