I have had orange blood as far as I can remember and I always wanted to get one our d21 down the track, out front of those 1066s. The only rules we have are Rpm (no more than 10% over stock), stock appearance, and tire size. Our 21s long block is mostly stock with the exception of M&W high compression pistons and 1.75 ratio roller rocker arms. my local injection pump shop maxed out the fuel on the 631 rosamaster pump, they increased the pressure release on the injectors, and set me up with a larger air research turbo to get me plenty of air. Im running 20.8 x 38 rear tires and a 10 tooth pinion and ring for speed. The ole gal holds her own, beating 4 of the 5 1066s and all the deeres, but that one still gets me by 5 feet with that dang TA. Just wondering if anyone could help me get that extra 6 feet. thanks for the help!

There are 3 ways to do job GOOD, FAST, CHEAP. YOU MAY CHOOSE 2. If its FAST & CHEAP it won't be GOOD, if it's GOOD & CHEAP it won't be FAST, and if its GOOD & FAST it won't be CHEAP!!!!

Intercooler will help. The bigger DB450 injection pump would help the most. If your turbo say's "Air Research" there would be much better choices there too. Least costly will be the intercooler (especially if you can run ice water though it) and a different,newer technology turbo.

so you have a D21 but they put the 210/220 head and rotor in it to get you the .310 plungers? D21's originally used a .290 plunger. Also, unless your local pump shop builds a lot of pullers, just "maxing out" your pump may still have left a lot on the table. Also, exactly what did they do with the injectors? nozzle hole sizes? opening pressure? I'd bet I could find enough more potential in the fuel system to get some more performance. As ops said, your turbo will be a limiting factor as well. How fast a gear you pull? 6th? spin out? The intercooler is a nice addition, but takes some engineering to get it to work on a early 3500 series engine.

The complete engine originated from a 210. The injectors are running stock tips with an opening pressure set at 3700psi. Although the injection pump shop is a very reputable shop for stock applications, they had told me they had adjusted the pump to the maximum amount of fuel it would deliver. The turbo is actually a Garrett with a .96 exhaust housing. When pulling, I run 7th gear and by the 270 ft mark it starts pulling the motor down hard. I'm not over fueling by no means at all and when under a load, she burns a real strong haze of black smoke, so I don't think I have any air flow issues.

If you have a video of it running 7th gear post it. I would like to see it.

The plume of smoke really doesn't say anything about airflow.... other than it's flowing in the right direction out of the exhaust pipe. The .96 housing Air Research turbo sounds like a turbo from a 7030 - 7060 if it is the "on center" housing. Slightly bigger than a stock 220 turbo, but old and inefficient compared to all the other choices you would have to pick from. Older turbo's will not move the air a comparably sized newer technology turbo will. That's a fact.

Injectors set at 3700 psi on a Roosa-Master pump is a step backwards too. 2800 psi would flow more fuel.

Hello, I'm new to this forum and stumbled across this subject.  I've had the priviledge of being a member on the Hellbent pulling team and learned a lot.  Hellbent is a Diesel Super Stock Allis-Chalmers D-21.  The owner of Hellbent is building a D-21 hot farm tractor with a single turbo'd 426 resleeved to 640 Cu.In.  The builder of this engine is Mark Gettinger.  After getting to know Mark I feel he's an authority on making horsepower with the 426.  His first Grand National puller was a D-21 called the "equalizer".  He's definately "been there, done that" with the 426 and has the performance parts to prove it!  Marks number is 765-977-8348, he's in Indiana (eastern time) and it's best to call him in the evenings on weekdays.  His brother Neil ran the "Up-n-atom" deere and currently campaigns the "lessons Learned" IH on the PPL circuit.  The Gettingers are Awesome People to know!
