Had Allis-Chalmers Model 916H stuck in frozen mud the other day. Engaged hydrostatic and hear something snap. The rear wheels are no longer engaged into the hydrostatic output shaft. I assume there is some type of shear pin or woodriff key that locks the hydrostatic to the wheels but cannot find a simple diagram to show me how the system works. Anyone have access to such a diagram, drawing, etc. or can explain to me how to proceed before I blindly start disassembling the unit. Any direction here would be appreciated.

Unlike the Vickers hydro, there is not a disconnect lever on the back of the Sunstrand transmission but there is a set of check valves on top of the hydro pump that when depressed with the latch allow fluid to bypass the pump for the purpose of pushing the tractor. Make sure the lever is raised and the stems on both those valves are sticking up. Then the lever is raised the valves should pop up when the engine is started. If they are in the right position I suspect you may have snapped the axle tube or broke the differential gears as poster stated above.

Assuming that it is in the differential (which would make sense) are there parts available on line? Thanks by the way for the diagram. That really helps me understand what I am likely to be dealing with. I am going to start dis-assembly today and it is nice to have pictorial references to help me understand where I am going.

Definitely the differential. There are some broken pieces inside. I haven't pulled it apart yet but I suspect that some of the gears are broken. the main gear on the axle does not show any damage but I haven't completely cleaned it yet. Are parts or a rebuilt differential available anywhere for this tractor. It is the later version of the differential from what I can tell. Any help here would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Parts are available for them. Take you model number and serial number to local Simpicity dealer or Agco and they can order them. Wells Implement and Sandy Lake can help you also. Might check with guys on Simple tractors for good used parts or new also.

Expect it to be pricy. But worth it.
