We are in the process of redoing a 200 new motor trans etc, the owner wants to pull with it but still be able to farm the pump, injectors are at diesel injection in sun prairie wi. the classes would be 8500lb to 10500lb farm paced at 5 mph 3000 rpm limit. just wondering what our options are thanks.

I want to farm with it and pull with it is getting harder every year. Farm stock is no longer anything that comes straight from the farm. Most "farm stock" tractors are pullers only. The other issue with the 200 @ 8500 and 10,500 lbs. is that you will be running I'm sure against engines that are 160 or more cubic inches bigger than the mighty 301.

With that said, you will need a second set of injectors, turbo and pump to compete. You will need a combination that will allow you to run 6th gear (high 3rd) and hope that is enough. I doubt you can do that with farm pumps, turbo's, and injectors. The flywheel clutch will need to be stiff and the PD clutch will have to be in good condition with the hydraulic pressure increased when pulling season comes around.

5 mph will be in your favor. I pull a lot of 5 mph pulls and use 5th with 18.4r38 firestones. I can run sixth but it's too fast. Around here 8500 is pretty even but there get to be some big red and green motors in 9500 and up.

i have set up fuel systems like this. you just have to compromise a little on both ends. But, you've chosen your builder, I'm sure they'll do what they want you to have. lol! Good luck!

That will be easy at that speed limit for a 200 ,, a fresh 301+ extra fuel , an innercooler with 38 in rubber she will slide right down the track

Yeah but.... in a 5 MPH pace class the bigger engines (let's use a 1066 for an example with a DT466 - cause they can) will lump along at 1600 RPM in high second with the T/A back and go 5 MPH. Then as the sled gets heavier it goes into high stick and the throttle goes open for an effective wheel speed of 10 MPH or more. My point is you need a gear much faster than 5 MPH and have engine enough to hack it.

By my math 6th gear in a 200 is 9.7 MPH @ 3,000 RPM with 18.4 X 38 tires. 5th is 7.8 MPH @ 3,000.

I agree, in the 8500 your chances are better for sure. Depending on how "farm stocky" things have to be, most big tractors won't be in there.
