185 anti freeze

my allis 185 has been drinking some anti freeze, i pre heat it with a tank heater for anything from 1 to 4 hours before starting, then run about an hour to feed hay daily, located west central wisconsin.  seems like something in the range of a quart daily. any ideas, oil is black not milky, don't see any change  in color of exhaust, and can't see any leaks?

the best way to make sure its not getting in the oil is to take oil drain plug loose before starting it after it has set over night. then you can tell if the antifreeze is in the oil. because thats what will come out first.

I had the same problem with my 190 XT. I bought a hand pump to pressurize the cooling system. I had 2 external leaks that could not be seen with normal use. I think one leak was on a heater hose and one was on the oil cooler hose clamps. ( I'm not sure if a 185 has an oil cooler.)

Also, send off an oil sample to an analysis lab.  It will show up with high levels of Potassium and Sodium (I think those are it, may have my chemicals wrong...) if it's burning antifreeze.  My 7000 was doing this before it really let go and got water in the oil.  Led me to overhaul the entire engine as the wear metals were pretty bad and things were looking wore out inside.  Note, the overhaul wasn't because of the water, just the first time I opened up the top and bottom end of the engine and saw how tired she was.  I'm not sure if the 185 has them, but if it does, check the injector copper sleeves.  That was the culprit on my 7000.
