   Sometimes the best thing you get at an auction is people watching. I went to an auction near Derby Ia that turned out to be an Amish farmer/saw mill sale. I watched 2 Amish men bid a hand push type reel lawn mower that can commonly be bought new at Menard's for about $90 up over $100. Then when they sold the horses, ok I have to admit the only thing I know about them is they can be ridden or used to pull farm machinery, one of them was a no sale. The auction ended about $300, but they said it would take $1000 to buy it. All of the others sold in the $100 to $300 range. They had a nice flare box wagon with a hoist under it that went for $185. I probably should have kept bidding on it, but the tires probably would have blown out on the trip home and I didn't have a wrench to remove my hitch ball and a hitch pin. I did come up with a couple nice Wisconsin engines and a couple A frame jacks that I think will work for straightening my barn walls with.

	Brian, good post. If a guy can scope the whole crowd during an item sale, it becomes interesting. Friends conversing, story telling, & joking. Small kids watching with a few adults trying to get the kid to wave at the auctioneer. Somewhere an unsuspecting Dad is going to get a surprise?? Trying to get next to the wagon to see an small items is an art in itself. I think the auctioneer should give out colored tags to the buyers next to the wagon as things sell. Only those with colored tags should be allowed to stand at the wagon. All the on lookers should have to back up or buy! 98% of the people in the auction crowd are observers. It only takes two people to make any item bring more. 2-4% are buyers of equipment. 100% are buyers of auction food or drink. But - where else can you sanely determine a value of an item from a group of people in such a short time period. I like auctions.

	I'm with you Eric, I get so mad at the "LOOKE LUES" beside the wagons! You are right 98% of them are just in the way! If I'm at a sale it's to buy something, Not to just look at what he's crying. LOL I did have a good time at a sale in South Eastern Kansas one time, The auctioneer forgot about a wagon load of stuff left to sale, And the sale was about over all the crowd was gone but me and him, I was bidding on a AC one way Cly and the bids just came and came, I called him on it and he lowered the bid back down to my first bid of $5.00, I laughed my poor word choice off at him too.
