We just picked up a d19 for 500 dollars. The low range is out of it. Just wondering what would be the problem and how hard it is to fix it. And can you just use it in high range without hurting it. It is a nice straight tractor with brand new tires on the back.

I would say it depends. If the power director just needs to be rebuilt, You can probably just use it as is. If there is a reduction gear or other hard part problem, you might be doing more damage to keep running it. If the power director needs rebuilt, you're going to have to split the tractor. I'm pretty sure the clutch packs can be adjusted without splitting it. You might also check the lever itself. I've heard stories of the set screw loosening and preventing it from going into engagement one way. Either way, sounds like you got a great deal in just tires alone.

It could be something as simple as being out of adjustment or the plates could all be warped or broken not to hard to spilt the tractor if you have to you could remove the plate on the right side of the torque tube and maybe see if something is broke Niel

ok guys got it home today. towed it about 12 miles. I was told that low range was out and that it was locked up the engine that is. I got it home and put seefoam in all the spark plug holes and let it sit. pulled it later on in the day and it seemed free. started up pretty easy after the gas got to engine. drove it and seemed to me that low and high worked fine but that it would pop out of gear. not the high low but the gear shifter. the only thing I would say for now is that I have to change the hydrolic fluid it had water in it that turned to ice so first things first. tin is straight and tractor does not look bad at all and tires even better.
