 Topic: WD Hold position

I am having trouble with the hold postion on my WD. Everything is set correctly acording to the book but the back blade will drift up or down slowly after it is set. i am thinking it is a weak spring or dirty seat for the ball in the valve. Has anyone else experienced this?

Bill, It sounds like it's set to DrawBar control or some call it weight transfer. Have you tried setting it to the hold position? In Drawbar control it will come up just like you are saying. If it's set in Hold position then rest the "A" screw up about 1/4" on the housing and see if that helps.

it is set to hold position acording to the book. i will try adjusting the A screw. thanks Don.

Bill, There is a little dimple in the side of case the "A: screw seats into, If you need to move it up to make her work then readjust the linkage a little.

We have had to replace a couple of the hold controls. On top of the pump, not the whole pump.

what goes bad on the hold valves? there's not much inside; spring, ball and seat, cam. can they be rebuilt?

I've been having the same problem with my WD. It uses to be fine, but last spring I used the Snap coupler plow and reset for draft control. After plowing and re installing drawbar, and setting all controls back to where they were, I can't seem to find a hold position that holds without floating up or down.

Guess we have to remember that the WD is anywhere from 57 - 63 years old. Things are basically build well but over that period of time they wear.
Yes, it is just a spring and a ball but I'm sure that can wear too. When we rebuilt them we always tapped the ball using a flat punch to seat it. I think it was just superstision but that may be the thing to do now.

Bill - Im over on the eastern shore outside of Ridgly. Im not complaining about the old girl. She has dug me out of over 50 inches of snow and pulled a bob cat out twice in the past week. i was thinking of getting a set of the cylinder stops to control the depth of the back blade that tractor supply sells.
