  I cranked the puller up yesterday morning to move it out of he way and started but seemed to fire on only one cylinder. I shut it down, recranked it, same thing. I checked the plug wires, cap, etc, you never know when a rat may visit especially this time of year. I tried once again, boom!, ran perfect. After getting what I needed out and putting it back I shut it down and cranked it several times, it's 50/50 about doing it, sometimes it wont crank.
 
   We supposed to pull tomorrow! I am running a MSD 6 AL, pertonix trigger, MSD coil. I have swapped the cap and button, always have a spare set of them. Help me out, I have got a neighbor that needs help in the field, I offered to help and he took me up. In other words, I dont have but just a few hours tonight to get it going.
 
   I did check EVERY connection on the ignition. they are soldered, and I unhooked the hot and ground, sandpapered the terminals, di electric greased them. I think I have looked at the obvious.
C, WD45,WD puller, 185, 200, 7060 Red Belly, 7060 Black Belly,8010, and a R52 Gleaner, AND PROUD OF THEM!

Vp's best straight out of the can. And yes it has cooled off quite a bit like in the mid 40's.

I closed the gap on my plugs from .060 to
045. It's cranking now. Recon this was the problem or was the ghost asleep?

Cylineder pressure is up from the last check, 35 psi more. The compression ratio way to high for .060 gap anyway. Put new plugs in, set on .045, new wires, new protonix trigger, new cap and button. I still am unsure of the problem, the wires ohm out ok, the plugs looked good, the electronic ignition has about  an hour on it, but you never know. Anyway it's running now. I am going to invest in a good set of wires from MSD if I can figure out which kit to order.

i had a set of copper wires, 7mm plain tractor wires like you'd get from about any aftermarket tractor parts supplier.  I've just got a Accell coil and electromic ignition, 260psi compression and the wires would arc.

I bought a set of Accell 8mm wires, a genaric fit it yourself wires for about $25-$30 for a V*8.  I just had to drill the cap a little on the terminals for the wires to fit in far enough for the ends to connect inside the cap terminals.

No more problems after good wires.  I'd have to say .060" gap with the parts you are useing isn't going to work.  I don't think going down to .030" would hurt, but if you can fire it at .045" that's good. 

I run down to .012" gap on a highly boosted methanol engine, more gap and it simply won't fire once the boost is up.  If the boost rises to much, it'll basically blow the spark out.  So there's a new MSD Pro Mag 44 going on.  

It just plain takes a lot of current to throw a spark across a gap, the higher the pressure, or the larger the gap, the more energy it's going to take.  Your MSD lengthens the duration of the spark, .060" gap is just to much for one of the components.....which one is it?

Making the 8mm wires fit was a bit of work and they just don't fit perfect in the cap.  Summit Racing has some of their brand labeled "Musclecar Retro Ignition Wires"  at about $41 for a set.  They are a 7mm wire, I'll be ordering a set next time I need some wires, I need to get just a couple odd parts allong with a set to make 2 sets for the tractors out of one of their 8cyl sets, you just need some more boots and ends for that extra coil wire.

I think you only use one R when you finally eradicate it and get rid of the E.

North carolina probably sigmons allis won 8 mph at whitepine dad says he didnt see a totally ballistic tractor there. Filling chris block with hard block.

ya know, some people do have other things to do than pull, like farm or any other form of work, even a hobby. apparently you and your family dont have that problem

Didnt go to white pine. Had a hook thirty minutes from home. The ghost showed up sitting on the scales. Bypassed the msd, took the 3500 thru the 5000. We know the msd is the problem now!

Cotton glad i could point you in the right direction. Msd boxes are great but problematic we have to change the one on dyno out within a 1 1/2 years and its in a controlled enviroment. Dad went said the nitric acid was high in most exhaust fumes. According to him one ole guy was upset someone had taken 3 gallon of his nitro. Dad said the ones that wasnt running it in tha tank motors was whining when the shot hit.dad said sigmons won with ac in 8 mile an hour but came in third behind two 901 from kentucky female drivers in four mile an hour.

   A guy that runs a super street truck and I were talking "ignition woes" last night. When I told him I had been running .060 gap with the ignition set up I have he replied by saying "Thats what is wrong with the MSD, you burned it up by running crap wires that leak to ground, to much gap from the bled down charge to jump, you simply worked it to death..."  He suggested MSD components from battery to plug wire, with a NGK plug in the hole with a VERY close gap. He has been fooling with this stuff for 40 years, there has to be some reality in his opinion.

Yeap he is right on it. The wider the plug gap the more everything be omes saturated with electrons untill enough force is built to jump air gap meaning the wider the gap the harder it is on all the electronic ignition from box coil to wires.
