Lets hear some good advice on maintaining the track between pulls. Types of drags, packers ect. Straight across box blades alone do a lousy job. A wave or slight hump across the track soon stops every puller at almost the same distance. True. Maintenance has to be done rather fast or the whole show could get much to long
    All we had at Shreveport was a box blade for between pull grading.  A packer may have helped some but the dirt was to dry to really pack well. By the time the heavy weights dug up the far end of the track on Friday night you could have planted corn past half way on Saturday.  Track conditions change and it's the same for everybody but the humps and dips need to be minimized.

We use a drag that is <> shaped where the rear V is bigger than the front. This seems to do a good job at smoothing out things. 
We also use a motorized rubber wheel packer if things get to torn up.

Typically the flagman won't let the puller dig in much before red flagging.

rubber wheel packer and a  box scraper is what we use, we also water the track the day or night before, get it good and soupy and muddy, than pack the crap out of it for two hours before the pull, myself, being a part of the association that does the pulls, got the job of going up and down the track for three hours

we water the track the night before the pull if it is dry we water every night for 2 or 3 nights we water till its muddy then we mist it the morning of the pull 1 hr before we disk it then i level it with our drag tractor then i roll it i try to make 3 passes on it we have a drag under a d17 an pull the roller with  it we have a tank on the roller and mist the track during the pull then during the pull when it gets dry we mist from the start to the 75 ft mark with our 1" hose our water comes off a 4" water main that feeds the pool in the park so we have good pressure and a lot of flow

Might try what the old dirt tracks around here used - chloride mixed with water to first water the track - the chloride will draw moisture from air and keep dirt from loosening - it was used to both control dust and make track hard -

Heres kind of a neat pic i seen on FB, the underneath of a sled- kinda see what stops you and it fabricates the track conditions its self!
