I'm looking at a very clean Allis Chalmers model 611 5 speed riding lawn mower.  Starts right off, everything works, no smoke, deck is good  and just runs like a top.  There is a small crack in the grill otherwise it seems like a good rider.  The guy wants to get $300 out of it.  Does this seem like a fair price?  Does anyone know anything about these models?  I really don't need a riding lawn mower, but it's A-C and its staring right at me.  Any thoughts would be appreciated.  I need to say "yes" by tomorrow or I'll lose out on it.  Thanks for any thoughts!

$300 for a lawn tractor with no problems is a bargain any day of the week.  Hard to find one where the mower has not been banged up.  Don;t know much about them, but I'd buy it for that price.

I got a 611H about a year ago for a little less, but had several issues.
$300 sounds like a good deal..

I didn't even know Allis made a lawn tractors until I stumbled onto one on the internet. I started looking around for one, and got this one for free.

Well, since I live in town and don't have room for a big tractor, this will have to satisfy my tractor habit.

I rebuilt the carb, put a battery in it, fired it up, and mowed my lawn- never even sharpened the blades! It ran smooth and cut good even after sitting in a machine shed for 10 years.

So, I put  in a little time and more money than I'll admit-

It sure turned out sweet, but after I used it awhile I realized it was just too small for me. And I wanted to get into the older garden tractors with all those swell attachments.

So now I have a 416, a B-10, a B-1, my brothers D-14, and my fathers B and WD to play with! But the 611H is what got me started in this amazing hobby.

Go ahead and buy it, it is a nice lawn tractor.

Little Marv:  Your touching story pushed me over the edge and I purchased it and brought it home today.  Hopefully more stories and a picture down the road. Thanks everyone for your thoughts.  Much appreciated!!
