I was wondering why all the good deals are on the east coast, west coast and the southern states... And none close to home.

Ok guys thought I should report for creeperfreak that it will not be going to the scrappers but coming to the "ALLIS CHALMERS COLLECTION of REDWOOD VALLEY GRAVEL". After the restoration of the Core family tractor last year we really would like to have one we could drive and not have to worry about scratching the paint. By the photos this tractor appears to have an original vintage Carco blade and some of you might have noticed that the blade trunions are mounted to the swing frame instead of to the outboard bearing cap. Most of the original after market blades were attached to the out board bearing, which if run long enough caused total destruction. It's a gamble for us to, while the purchase price is ok, it's at least a three day trip with fuel and permits probably being three times that much. We're planing on making the trip later next week. I also might post it up on USHIP and see if it generates any interest that would save us money. We'll post pictures as we progress.

Well it sure looks good, as you mention, getting it home will be two or three times more expensive.

Ok guys, this HD5 is safely back at restoration headquarters. Brother Dave his wife Ina and Cookie the dog made a three day trip to Washington to retrieve it. It's a good specimen Carco blade system, we don't have one of those. The right track rail is near new condition and the left rail is 50% (not a problem). Does not steer, covers are of the clutches and it appears that each side has new brakebands, probably an attempt at a easy fix for the steering problem. That's ok I'll find the problem and let you know.

You mean I have to type before hitting post. Same problem on the HD-5, I just wasn't paying attention to a good one right next door.

Merv, You've seen all those tractors before from different angles. The HD6EP had a broken sprocket shaft like the HD5 earlier. Put another shaft in but the outboard bearing seal is leaking (was suspicious when I put it back together there might be a problem) so I'm open for suggestions on that one. The 11B lost the seal in the auxiliary drive pulley last year while we were on a wildfire assignment. All those new parts are laying around ready for reassembly (if I can find them still). The 16B was a save from the scrappers last year we took the blade and the rippers off to move it home. It needs a ring and pinion (that one's gonna be awhile)
Lee, Where were you?. We only turned in a complimentary bid on ebay and got stuck with it. Looks like you could have ferried it across the Sound in a couple of hours. We were trying to keep the scrappers honest |
