Got a 15 II also.  Sweet little tractor.  Get lots of waves on Tractor Rides.   lol Suppose the Power Director could cause problems if worn enough

They can jump out of gear, depending on how hard they were beat on.  What someone told me was to drive them in each gear up and down hills and if it doesn't pop out of gear, then it will be ok.  I did that and the D15 that I bought was fine and still is fine.  Like any of these old tractors, you have to put the clutch in and wait a hair to put into gear, otherwise you can grind the gears and cause premature wear.  I would also test the powerdirector clutch which is the hand clutch on the right hand side.  Try driving it in high which is forward and low which is backwards.  The powerdirector clutch should go into forward and reverse as well as neutral position properly.  If it doesnt' work in one or the other, that might need some attention which can cost some money.  I guess transmission and power director are the two major things, also make sure that the two point for snap coupler or the three point works.  That is the lever on the left side just underneath the steering wheel.  If everything is in good shape, buy the old girl, you won't be dissapointed.  I love mine, just used it today to load up stuff on my trailer as it has a loader on it.  If you have any other questions, just ask.

No big problems, it seems like lots of the D series like to jump out of gears from what I hear on here, it depends on how they were taken care of.  Mine is on and off about jumping out of third, sometimes it stays in well and sometimes it goes about five feet.  The 160 engine is rare and hard to find parts for, but this tractor is a real nice size for doing a lot of things, and will fit in a garage if that's all you have to store it in.

This D15 could have a shuttle clutch instead, which I did not mention, but that is usually only if it was a loader tractor.  Then it would not have a R on the transmission and the hand clutch in the back position would take the tractor and put it in reverse in whichever gear you are in.

Chuck, if it has a shuttle clutch would the lever be on the opposite side from where the power director lever is like on the I series industrial tractors or in the same position?  Just wondering.

I think I have seen them both ways.  I always thought that the lever would be on the opposite side, but I think Fred from PA had pictures of a D14 with a shuttle and the lever was on the right side like a power director but it had the cooling lines etc. for the shuttle clutch just like the H3 and HD3 dozers did.  I did see a D17 once with a shutttle and the lever was on the left side.   I think you could put in on either side.  My HD3 dozer is a power director clutch, not a shuttle and the lever is on the left side just like a shuttle clutch on an HD3. I think all I said just adds to the confusion.
