can the hydraulic rams on a 49 wd be rebuilt, and can i get a kit, or is it easier to try and find new ones to put on? They drift down with weight on. thanks

Are they actually leaking at the packing? If not, your problem is more likely in the "hold" valve.

We have a WD with loader, and hydraulics were dripping all over the place. Dad tried the powersteering leakstop that most auto stores sell-figured it would buy us some time to do it right. It stopped the leaks right now! Still has one under the pump, but we use it so little we figure it is not that big of a deal anymore!

Tighten the packing to slow leaks. The packing has to let a small amount of oil by to lubricate things, but it should not run out. You can buy new chevron type packings from places like Motion Industries. They will either need measurements from the old cylinder or an old stack of packings to match you up. There is no piston or piston seal in these cylinders. Everything is contained by the packing. If the rods are good, without gaulding or pitting, the new packings will fix you right up.

Be prepared to heat the cylinder to get it apart. I did some for a guy and they were a bear. Only ones I've ever done though.
