   Ok maybe a rookie question... 

Just wondering..When you run a seed drill, what is the trick to keeping the rows evenly spaced between passes? Planters have the luxury of row markers... I figure I will have
to measure the distance betweenthe last drop and the outer tire and align using the eyball appropriatly and hope I dont drift to badly..seems kinda of a clunky way of doing it, or perhaps I being too anal and no one really gives a crap.  Im afraid gonna catch all kind of grief when my farming relatives come over to my folks for the holidays and see my wavy badly spaced passes LOL!

	The way I did it was measure your distance and put a pipe on the front of your tractor and hang a chain down to follow along the previuos seed track, not pefectly accurate but beats trying to look back or really guessing.

	The way I do it with my Oliver drill behind my WD is run the WD rear tire in toward the seeded side of the tire mark left by the drill in the previous pass. I run it just over the tire track inside of the track. This leaves me a really good looking field, closely spaced and no noticeable gaps. A little overlap is OK too. My advice to you Tom is start out with the drill and on your next pass figure out where you need to run the rear tire on the tractor to get the spacing close. Works well for me.

	I do what Ross said. Of course, maybe that only works with an AC tractor and an Oliver drill. ;-) Every year though, I swear that I'm going to make up a marker pole like Jim described. Maybe this is the year.

	With a JD drill, I used to run the tire over the last row planted for even spacing. But to hide the inevitable wanders, I cut the seeding rate in half and did the field twice, once east to west and a second pass north to south. Then there were no places without any seed, just some places with half rate that really did not hurt too much and was not noticeable. Gerald J.

	Thanks Guys, At least I know Im not the only one with the issue...The "cadillac" solution popped into my head (wht does that always happen?) Foam markers!! Well, not this year...

	I do pretty much as Ross said. Running a JD 14 - 7 drill behind an AC 185. Make my first pass aligned straight on field, then make next pass with the drill tire in the track left by the drill tire on the previous pass. Maybe just luck, but it works out great for me.

	Not trying to be smart or anything, BUT, how do you drive down the road and stay between the lines? Look straight ahead and judge the distance you need to be, don't look back or 1 side to the other, And my boys will tell you I'm quite anal about making it straight and no skips, been doing it for years and it is like riding a bicycle, just dive and look forward, it works. But you do need to pay attention to what you are doing and not watch the neighbors or the cars going down the road.

	I have a jd van-brunt grain drill that I pull with a wd-45 to sow oats/grass seed. My sure fire way of not leaving any gaps or over seed is to drill out previous grain drill tire track. Works perfectly. You can stop and mark you disk opener on your grain drill, turn around and drive by and see if your next disk track should be seven inches from last disk mark. Trial and error will make it perfect. Bill

	Steve .. what do you do on contours ?...lol Just judge the difference ..look back and see if the rear tire is ..just overlapping the last pass ..perfect .. you have to under - over compensate with contours on hills ... after a while you won,t look back , and your neck won,t be so sore....

	I'm pretty sure the distance from the tire to last drop is more than 7" on my 7"x21, otherwise running in the old track would be fine.

	Kinda like watching where the drill disc's run and see where your tractor lines up as you start the second pass when you have the disc lined up with the first pass. About the same when you fit ground with a disc or springtooth. Never figurered it a problem.
