After Allis sold the ag division, was there anything left, other then the oil field company? Was the ag division the last to go under or were there other divisions still in business in late 1985?
It seems strange when AGCO was formed that they didn't use the AC name for their products, especially as they didn't have much to start with, until they bought Hesston and MF. Sure could have been different if someone had fought more for the AC name 20 some years ago. |

I believe that Allis Chalmers still owned the name, Allis Chalmers, so Agco could not fully use it.

Those poles probably have transformers or capacitors built by Allis Chalmers hanging on them. Dusty

I think the Ag division was the 3rd, construction, electrical, then AG ; which didnt make any sence since the AG division was making most of the $$$$$$, but in the 80,s ag was rough ; supposedly the AG division was worth 240 mil. ;they sold for 108 mil. ; AC must have been in really bad shape to lose everything , to be as big as they were and lose it all in 5 years ; come on, what kinda business men were these guys !!!!! There is a link somewhere to JIMS AC PAGE that describes all the years, a timeline of the end

Matt is correct, Allis-Chalmers Energy was the surviving entity which holds the title to the logo, tax payer ID number, etc. That's why they could license the A-C lawn tractor to Briggs and Stratton. I've talked to people who work there. Nice people who seem to have high ethics and appreciate the heritage of the small company they work for.

I worked with Allis Chalmers Energy a couple years ago. They had good looking well run equipment on location.

Spud: Good to hear you had a good experience at ALY. I was very impressed with them in all my dealings. Be interesting for you to post a story or two if you have sometime to that some day. Take care!

What kind of work were you doing with them?
We were doing underbalanced drilling with them. We had the separation. CementRite out of Michigan had the coil tubing and Allis Chalmers had the cryogenic nitrogen.
I will see if I have any photos.
