Restoring a unstyled wc for show and stock pulling. I have styled type 28 inch wheels on it. I currently have a nice set of older firestone 45 degree tires on it but they are only 12.4s. I was thinking of going with 13.6 or 14.9s. I have 55 hp to pull them with, 3500-4000 lb. classes. Should I even try pulling the 12.4s? What size do you recommend? What brand? Pulling in ohio clay. Firestone field and roads are gone, now they have sat2, are these any good? Thanks for any info, JM

most clubs allow 15.5 38s in super farm stock how fair would it be to have to run 28s when most other brands came with 38s?

Super Farm, OK
Farm Stock no. The tractors came with what they came with. If you want to run 38's then buy a brand that had them

WC, s were never offered with 38" tires . 36" were the tallest tire offered from AC.  Wc tractors with 36" tires were high crop models and had a lower final drive ratio to keep speeds close to standard WC speeds. In the reference books that I have  checked , wd, wd45 tractors never had 38" tires , it wasn't until  the D17 that AC offered a 38, and  a 13.6X38 was the largest available.  I'll consult other references in my tractor book library to confirm., and if I find 38's for wd, wd45s listed , I'll repost.

Our original owners manual for our WD-45 shows 38's as a option.

doesnt matter for my association, i can only go 2.5 max on farmstock, super farm is 8mph but that is like really serious. way to much for a stock wd, guess how fast first gear is with 28 inch rims on a stock wd, no room for bigger tires

Unless you've changed gearing or have lots of low end torque, 38's on a WC won't do well for 2.5-3.5mph class....its tough with stock gearing and 13.6x28's to keep slow. I was all for a set for mine till I pulled awhile and watched a lot....16.9x26 I think will do me well. Short and fat....doesn't mess up my ground speed and gives me lots of footing

Most of the pulls i have pulled at have a line somewhere down track that you can speed to before the speed limit is enforced most  of the time its at 100 feet  . Blow the horn 99 feet silence it at 100 and the sled by then will usually have caught you enough that your not going regain your speed with tall tires unless the engine has a lot of snot in  it.
