Will I hurt the strength of the tractor if i cut my adapter plate so I can remove engine without completely splitting the frame and unhooking all the wires and hoses to get to clutch? Will the 4, 1/2 inch bolts be strong enough to keep block in its place?

A D-21 rear adapter plate does not have the frame bolts pass through it. There would be a dowel pin and the 1/2 inch bolts on your 7000 that would be left to hold the engine i would think that would be fine, unless i am misunderstanding the pic you posted.

I've seen a lot of supers that generate aver 2x the torque of tat cummins that are held in with much less.

Yes thats all holding the back of the block but still has front mounts.

137 veiws and only 3 responces.... Darn good thing I dont have to do any weldin on this plate, two post up is a weldin and who's dicks the biggest class. Think ill go back to the few & proud and pulloff, to get more advise. Thanks for the replies just would like to know if its been done before.

Sorry about your lack of responses Bob. Personally i really enjoy this addition to the forum but like everything in life sometimes feel the need to sort through the rubish. I had watched your tractor run and had a chance to talk to you at our local pull at fountain county fairgrounds, Veedersburg, Indiana. It really is great to see you out there with an orange tractor as most of that class appears to be MM yellow. I truly enjoy the sport of tracor pulling from stock mph classes all the way up to the big boys in Louisville, consider pulling an addiction similar to gambling or alcholism an addiction that consumes most of your spare time and thought process for no other reason than it makes you smile.  I suppose I'm as guilty as anybody about reading posts and not leaving opinoins really not that big on typing and would just as soon give my opinion verbally.Looks like you are leading the pack from a performance stand point on a Cummins in a A-c and that in itself is awesome! Keep the pics and info coming Bob and dont worry about those commandos lurking behind their keyboards!!!!

I think the 4 half inch bolts will hold it fine, since the plate won't be the only thing keeping the tractor in one piece, the frame rails will be there still. Looks like a nice idea, but I wondered if you'd have enough room to go straight forward to clear the input shaft upon engine removal. I guess at 6500# you've likely made your own front support, and went with a manual rack & pinion setup? Keep pics coming Bob! See ya in a couple weeks!

What kind of clutch you running??  Just curious.....hard to beat a crower, once you get the hang of it, cut the bellhousing bottom out too, that'll help alot if you haven't already.  And my piddly opinion the plate will be fine doing what you're wanting to do.
 
On the views/posts--there's alot of people that may look because they enjoy pulling, but do not have a puller, and enjoy the pics/ fabrication/ etc.... HP junkies in other words!!
 
Someday, some way I want another one, loved it, but had to let it go for now......do still have a nice Sisu engine though, and EVERY 180-190 piece of a tractor that comes through, I think- 'I'll keep this one and build another' ....bah, hasn't worked yet!! lol

Bob, seems like a good idea, but I didnt think a response from me was any good because I do not know if it will work and didnt figure my two cents was worth telling that.  I read all these posts and try to learn something as I pull the WC, but I am more of an observer/reader and try to be a good boy:)  I do know what works for my application, but thats it .

Bob , I have done this sorta thing in the past on mod set up but I installed a torque arm to the frame to keep torque twist limited . I felt this way not so much stress on the structure. You have a good idea rolling . Like ur tractor !

I used a dog bone from a Pontiac Car i had laying around . The bushing in the arm gave it little cushion and was easy to take off with pins then the 4 engine to bell housing bolts . Never had issues . Take care happy new year!
