   Just got my first AC.  B #1138.  Not new to old tractors....just new to AC.  I'm sure I will have many questions.  
First, can any one send me some clear pictures of the correct rear rims?  I have two different types and want to make it correct.

	Welcome. There is a serial number reference on this site. Most B rims were clamp type with ridge around the inside for a vee type eccentric clamp to grab. Aftermarket rims or rims from other brands called loop type were often be used as replacements. If you get a chance to shoot some pics lots of people will be glad to comment on what you got. I you look at posts with a B in the title, over time you will see lots of pictures. I will post a few, not sure how well the rims clamps will show.

	If that is correct serial number it should be very early model like a 38, mine is late model with many diffferences. Is it crank start? Rubber tires?

	I did not find a picture in of mine that displays the clamps very well. You can barely make one out on the far side rim facing down but the cultivator covers it. At the width my rims are set the clamp hardware is all on the inside of the large center casting. I have headlamps, starter and battery box. Does yours have crank handle stored under the steering post?

	the wheel centers on Miles' pic are the adjustable type to give more width choices. They seem go with the adjustable front axle. Mine seem more common on B and slide directly on the axle spline at center, held by a large nut. You can see the rim clamps at outside in his pic. That part is the same.

	Your tractor is a 38 and they used a special rim clamp. Instead of the clamps fitting over a raised area on the rim, the rim had a recess and the clamps were rounded on the ends and fit into the recess. This of rim will interchange with the raised area rim when using the proper clamps. Bob

	Thanks for the input so far. I'll get some pics this week and post. It is crank start on rubber. Non-adjustable tread width. Some of the wheel bolts have been replaced. Sheet metal is pretty straight with only a little damage right on the chin and the hood is a little egg shapped. It does have hydraulics and a three point...some of which looks original....some not. I don't know enough about them to know if that was an option in 38 and is original to the tractor or if added later. It does have a PTO and belt pulley and the hyd pump and valve is mounted there. The steps are homemade and I was told the manifold came from a later model. Engine side weights are still with it.

	my first tractor is a 1938B also with serial #B2409. yes those rear rims look the same asa mine. i have seen an early 38 B with split rims like the 37 B has. was told that some early ones had these. mine needs restoring.. bought it 30 some yrs ago but the it sat outside & the engine is stuck now.

	I am sure I will have to find at least one rim. Sometime before I got it somebody welded the rim clamps to the rim on one side. Hopefully I can separate them succesfully and only hve to find a rim. Curious thing, the rim bolts on one side had crucifixes on the bolt heads.

	Look carefully at the bolts themselves, you will see that they are the ones that are eccentric.

	The correct vintage rims and clamps for later 38Bs and early 39s are the footed W (For a lack of a better description ) clamps that stradle and wedge behind the small angles rivited to the bead flange of the rim as pictured in Richard Akins posted photos. The other early 38 B clamps are special clamps that fit and wedge in a shallow wide grove in a 2 piece split rim like those used on 37 Bs. Normally 2 plain 3/4 and 2 excentric 3/4 bolt clamps are used per wheel of either style rim. Both of this style rim and clamp systems are obsolete and are not reproduced. All later Bs 1940 and up and the Cs rims are the 4 bump or continues ridge on the drop center of the rim. Rim clamps for these rims have a concave base that fits the bump and use the standard 5/8 bolts and 5/8ths excentrics. The excentric bolts all have a + or a cross on the head of both the 5/8 and 3/4 rim clamp bolts. You may also note that you can identify 1938 wheel centers at a glance by the shallow half moon valve stem notch in the edge. All later B wheel centers had a deeper V notch. If you measure the OD, the 38 is a tad (1/2 inch) larger. Wheel centers Bs prior to 39 B tractor number 18055 should have the 3/4 bolt holes for the clamps if they haven't been changed out. I have found some bushed down to 5/8 to use newer clamps and rims. Good luck finding and matching old style rims and clamps.
