Hi all! Im new to the Forum. I was at a Antique Tractor show today and
was a little disappointed I couldn't bring my ol model b out. The
tractor is a 1946 Model B, as far as I know not a "Special" model how
ever has what I think is a WC seat on it. Its not a bench, its a spring.
(See pictures below)
uploads/7440/Modelb.jpg This tractor was purchased brand new for our farm, and has been in use for nearly every year from that time. I am the Great Great Grandson of the man who bought it, and Im trying to keep the old girl Running. We use it every year from cutting our field with a PTO driven bush hog, to pulling trees out of the woods. I need a lead for a Rear tire. The originals on it are 9x24 Us Royal tires. Unfortunately one of the original tires got a cut on the very edge and needs to be replaced. I was told today by one of the few AC guys at the Show that the number id for tires changed a few years ago, and quite frankly I don't know how to search for that size tire correctly. Any help someone here can give me would be much appreciated. Maybe one day i can get the old girl of the Farm and to a show. I think I want to keep it "Farm Condition" People seem to love old tractors that way. |

WELCOME to the FORUM !! Your seat is an "aftermarket" seat. possible a Monroe.
The tire size that you need ia 9.5 X 24 and can be purchased from tire shops such as Miller tire, who advertise on this site. You tractor looks very good. It must have been very well taken care of. Bob

If the original tire is actually a 9-24 the 9.5 is today's replacement. If it is a 9.00-24 the replacement size is 12.4-24 Here's a chart from Miller Tire. With tire prices the way they are, I would look around for a Farm Tire store and see if they have "take offs" from a FWA tractor. I found a set of solid casings with even tread wear that will last me the rest of my life for less than half what one new one would cost and I got new tubes with em. A 12.4 tire would look good on the old B but that's JMO and I would replace both if I went to a different size.

Just put a set of 11.2 - 24's on my B. Ouch! Charlie has a good suggestion - find a pair of take offs. New ones are expensive.
BTW Welcome to the forum. |

Nice looking B - my favorite. You have a very important unit there, your Great Great Grandfather's tractor. That should stay in the family for ever.
I can't help you with tires since I have been out of the business since 1962. I would suggest you listen closely to the above remarks. Funny, it seems like yesterday that the B came through with the 9x24 tires, then the 10x24, then the newer tire sizes. I have to agree with the remark that it would be very good to have some take offs. Yes, tire prices are out of sight. Take good care of my favorite. Good Luck! Bill Long |
