I am trying to put the top shifter plate with the 3 gear forks back on the transmission. Is there a way to tell if the forks are lined up properly? Is it possible to get the plate to seat properly and still not be correctly lined up?

maybe put the plate in place. If the bolts will tighten, just finger tighten them until you can take the shifter, and go through the gears. If they all shift, they should be lined up ok.
just don't FORCE anything, incase something isn't lined up.
Not sure if taking the shifter out before doing this would help or not. |

don't quote me here but it seems like you put slider and shifter in "R" and top shaft collars in "N" and gently set it in....I think there is some issue with trying to get "R" slider enguaged in fork with everything in "N"....here again, did this before but a long time ago...IT"S NOT ROCKET SCIENCE....you can figure it out.....where is your sence of adventure? Biggest thing is to check that it all works when done.

Ok you shamed me Steve. (lol) I was hoping there was a surefire method to be sure the forks were seated correctly before I bolted it down . So be it. The adventure continues.

Rod, I am in O'Fallon, MO. If you can't get it re-assembled, I may be able to come over to your place and give you a hand. Like Steve said, it works best to put the shift forks into a certain gear and it will go back together pretty easy. I just can't remember which gear but I seem to recall either reverse or second.

....and Rick might be correct....maybe it's 2nd(collar and fork) which gives room for "R" fork to get down to slider....I dunno but it's somthing like that. If I was standing there looking at the situation I could figure it out.
The more I think about it, the more I think it needs put in second gear ....

The cover has to go on with the left side down first, then roll the reverse fork into place. It won't go straight down into place.

Yes you and Rick are spot on. I have installed the top covers both ways and Charlie is right on the tilting of the cover too. It will go on fast when you get it started down so watch your fingers. lol

I did mine awhile back and used a info sheet from Sandy Lake Implement. Following those instructions it was really easy. They will probably email you the info sheet.

I got it on Don. Thanks. I went through all the gears and it seems to be correct. I haven't started the tractor up yet I still have to pick up the PTO housing tomorrow and put it on. Mike stopped by yesterday and said it seemed to be shifting ok.
