What would a 220 with front wheel assist be worth if the serial number is 1? Also if it was all original?

Model 220 serial numbers began at 1001 and the FWA models were years later, so it can't be "1".

Serial Number 2223 would be the first 220 FWA. Is this the tractor your referring to, camomax ?

Well I know a gentlman who has one that has had several mechanics from old allis dealers look for the serial number and the only one they could come up with was on the axle and it had a number 1. The location for the serial number was undisturbed so hasnt been ground off or what not. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated .

Obviously they don't know where to look for the "chassis" serial number on the clutch bellhousing OR it's covered by some add-on cab mount.

Its neither, i know that doesnt sound realistic but its never had a cab on it and there is no number on the housing. It doesnt make sense; I know, Im just trying to help him figure out whats what.

Could it be a proto-type or something? If it is, I'd guess the value of it to be out of this world. Does he have any history on it as to where it came from or anything? Darrel

Thats what we are trying to figure out. It came out of wisconsin he bought it about 10 years ago from an older gentleman. If this would be a prototype I cant imagine the value of something like that. I just cant picture them not putting a serial number on the housing and only finding the "1" on the axle seems odd. By no means am i claiming its the first one built but it makes a guy wonder. Has anyone else had any of the same problem locating a serial number on one of these?

My guess is that the "1" is a casting number. Maybe?
P.S. The only thing I would like better was if you said that you have a D21 FWA! |

Casting may have been replaced. At the dealership I worked at, they told me of a 220 they had that had a leak when it was still new in warranty. It had a pinhole in the rear end casting that only had a layer of paint holding the oil in and by the time the new owner got it home it was leaking. They replaced the casting. They engraved the serial number on the new casting but I suppose not all shops took the time to do that.

It has the original paint kinda rough but the metal is pretty nice! everything appears to be original but i suppose it could be a replaced housing not sure.

Seeing that I am not an expert on the 220's, that was just my uneducated guess. |

Don't want to pass judgement but this story sounds similar to a Waukesha WC that was 'discovered' a few years ago. |

As was stated earlier, if the 220 FWD is serial 2223, it is the first one. If it has no serial number, it is a 220 FWD with a replacement bell housing. As for the controversial Waukesha WC a few years ago, I do beleive it is real. I've done some business with the poster and he said his friend owns the WC. He did privatly tell me the serial number and the number makes it the earlist WC. I'm sure we will get more info in due time.

Mr. Camomax, when you're there with your camera, please take a picture of the engine serial number tag. The serial number will read 3D-XXXXXXX. This would be an indicator of the chassis serial number when compared to other known "good" chassis serial numbers versus engine serial numbers. The engine number will never match the chassis (more engines built than tractors) on a 220, but will still give an idea where the tractor fits into the production history time frame. Years ago, I saw an old D21 series 1 that the chassis was like D21-1300 and the engine was 3D-01350....pretty close, but always more engines than tractors.
