    Posted: 26 Apr 2012 at 4:32pm
Our 6060 has developed a vibration between the rpms of 1800 - 2100 with nothing noticable before or after.  Any ideas of what that might be?  Harmonic balancer or looking at rod bearing issue???

Thanks!

don't those 433 engines use a counterbalance device under the crank?

I don't know how bad this vibration is, but they (6060-6070-6080) are a bit prone to this, especially if they have a factory installed cab on them. The clutch mechanism can get out of balance from wear. It is very heavy and hangs a mile rearward from the back of the crankshaft flange. The slightest imbalance can sent a vibration thru the steering wheel, etc. It just simply might be the way it is. They are hard to keep in perfect balance and some of that depends on how particular the operator is.

Mine did that for as long as I can remember, since new.  Overhauled it last winter.  When I read the manual on how to time the counterbalance assembly it came up with the timing dots either way from perfectly lined up.  I did not pay attention when I took it apart so put it on the one way I thought might be closest to perfectly aligned more than the other.  Whether this has anything to do with the vibration going away I have no idea, but it is the only thing I can think of that would have caused it as I only inframed the engine.

Wouldnt that clutch outa balance be hard on the bearings in the engine? ?

We did just get a new clutch put in this winter along with some PTO work.
Am I hearing you guys right, the clutch could be not timed with the balancer and that is what causing the vibration?  I have never heard of timing the two together on any other tractor.  Actually thought that they only fit one way.

There is no timing from clutch to balancer. It sounds like it is clutch assembly related and that is sometimes difficult if not impossible to cure. You can waste a lot of time and money trying to correct something that just simply might be the way it is going to be. I'm not there driving it, but I'd bet if I put my 83 yr old Dad behind the wheel, he'd never notice a thing. My wife wouldn't either. A keen "gear-head" does notice things like this and becomes concerned. I'm guessing that when you actually drive the tractor in motion at these engine speeds you don't notice it nearly as much.  Might just have to live with it.
