I came across some pictures of this plow from an online auction site a while back, and I thought some of the early B guys might be interested. It's a different version of the hand lift than the one I have. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

That is an older B Plow. In fact I cannot remember one that we installed that looked like this. The hand lift arrangement is so unique.
This does not look like a Waird (?) plow attachment since that uses the B draw bar turned forward and mounted on the front brackets of the final drive. A most interesting set of pictures. Thanks for sharing. Good Luck! Bill Long |

I have a 38 B that came with the original plow and all the attachments and it looks just like that. Has its own forward facing drawbar. Same hand lift as well

That is the first mounted B plow. I have one, along with the manual, etc.

This is the 38 that I was given. They were using the plow hand lift to lift the woods deck. The engine was stuck for over 10 years. After soaking it for a week, it broke loose, and ran. It smoked like a house of fire for almost a year then quit smoking all together

I have this same plow as well except the rear brackets and how it attaches to the front drawbar are slightly different.

How many versions of the mounted plow were made? I feel like there were 3 or so variations of the hand lift plow. I need to dig out my '39 B plow parts book/manual. It lists two different versions of the piece that rotates on the rockshaft.

There were 3 versions of the B plow. I am fortunate to have saved one of each, as well as obtain original manuals for each version. I also have the Dealer Parts Manuals that deatail out each model and what makes them different from one another.

Thanks, Glenn. You B gurus sure are nice to have around here!
craigreavley, I wouldn't mind seeing more pictures of your '38 B and attachments if you get the chance.

that plow was listed as being from September of 38 until March of 39, they made a change to it in March of 39 and used that one until Janurary of 40. Then they made another change and used it until April of 40, after which another change was made and in use until Sept of 40. still another change was made and that one was used until August of 42. These are all changes in the lift and leveling arrangement. the last of these was made in December of 40. There were also several different depth adjusting arrangements used between 38 and 41. also 3 different lift assemblies were used 38-39, 39- 41 and after 41. As well as beam changes, drawbar changes etc. Constantly improving the product and performance. Bob

Is there a model number for these plows? I'd love to have a manual for them but aren't really sure what to look for. I'm told back in one of our sheds there's a mounted plow for my '38 B (no hydraulics). That was going to be one of my projects this year if I can dig it out.

There was a plow like that on Harvey Zabel's sale. I did not see how much it went for or who bought it. I had never seen one like it before so didn't pay much attention to it. To bad this post wasn't before the sale, then I would have paid more attention to it.

wjohn,
The lift lever on that B sure looks like it would provide lots of leverage but it also
looks like you'd have to have an arm like an ape to reach it. LOL

Emmo213, I found my plow manual at an Allis Chalmers show from a vendor that had tubs of literature for sale. It's from May of '39, I think, so it covers the March '39 change that Chalmersbob mentioned. I don't believe there was an actual model number for this plow, but I could be wrong. Brian G., I know! I'm kind of intimidated by the lever on my plow. I haven't set it up yet, but I hope my 125 lbs can lift that thing haha!

That is a fairly early plow, but I think it has the hydraulically lifted rockshaft? I'm pretty sure that's the first version of the hydraulically lifted plow.

Oh, well this summer we'll find out. No offense but I kinda hope you're wrong, only from the perspective of my B doesn't have hydraulics. That's one of the nice things about messing with these old tractors: everything's an adventure!

That plow/rockshaft is definately a hand lift. I have the same setup on one of my 1938 B's.

This is probably what had me confused (yes, I realize it's had additional stuff welded to it). The hydraulic lift version looks very similar for that style of plow. I have pictures of a complete setup on my home computer that I'll try to post later.

The rockshaft is the same, for both hand lift and hydraulic. If he doesn't have hydraulic on his tractor, it would have been handlift.

That's pretty nifty. Wouldn't take much effort to put it on a B with hydraulics.

Would it be possible to get some other pictures of hand lifted plows for the B? This could be a good resource for other in the future.
Thanks everybody! |

I keep trying to talk Glenn into posting pictures of his, but so far he's been holding out! Hehe. It would be really neat to have a picture of each version in this thread.
I've posted this before, but here's the one that came with my '40 B, which Glenn has been kind enough to help me locate parts for. Someday I'll have time to get it mounted... ![]() |

Here's the 5-39 edition plow manual that I have. It mentions different lift parts prior to May but doesn't show any pictures.

the early rock shaft C shaped lift did not line up with the placement of the hydraulic cylinder. The one picture looks like the cylinder is mounted under the seat support. I had an early hand lift plow when I was 13. It's quite a job to lift. My tractor had hydraulics, but the cylinder was too far under the tractor to line up with the lift attachment (C), so I ran a bolt through the seat bracket and mounted the ram on the outside of the fender to get the alignment. The early B didn't have a pin mount for the ram, but you could buy a bolt on pin. I know it is shown in the cultivator book. Also the rock shaft diameter was smaller on the early B plow and the lift arms didn't unbolt. The mounting brackets looked like homemade angle iron as shown in one of the plow pictures. Bob
