 Topic: Two-Way Plow Info

Could use some help in identifying a two way plow.
When my brother
bought two Allis tractors from a widow lady (a C and a WC), she told him all
the orange stuff laying out in the yard went with the tractors, so we loaded
it. Part of the orange stuff was a two
way plow, consisting of two one bottom units, each with a long beam that
appears to connect under the midsection of the model C. One has the usual right-handed moldboard,
while the other throws the dirt to the left, so that you can make a U-turn and
plow your way back, covering the same furrow.
Cool, except that
there was no owner’s manual to detail the exact connection, what bolts are
needed where, and so on. Browsing the
internet, I came to wonder if the plow was made by the Wiard plow company that
burned down in New York in 2010. (That
might make getting an owner’s manual more difficult.)
How would an
experienced Allis person go about finding some plow info?

Show us a picture or compare the plow frame to the ones in the plow frame parts book that you can download from http://www.grandpastractor.com/phpBB3/index.php
You should look for 6 digit part numbers stamped into the backs of moldboards, shins, plow shares, or frogs. At least vintage AC part numbers were 6 digits. Aftermarket might be anything but its possible they might hint at a maker and plow size.

Okay - Thanks... Hopefully I have just uploaded a jpeg pic of half the plow. The other half looks the same except for the direction of the moldboard.

I sold and assembled two way plows. First, check for plow drawbar brackets on the front side of your final drive housing. Second, check for a plow drawbar. Third, check if you have a lift arrangement right behind the seat, fourth, check to see-if youhavetwo rams rams left and right. Also you should have a diversion valve.
If you have that hardware with the plow beams you are close to being in business.
I am sure some have pictures that can be shared.
You have a very interesting set up. If you like to plow get set for some enjoyment.

The C pickup plows are not included in Section 3 of the parts catalog Gerald mentioned. They are covered in section 1.
The picture you have in your first post is a right hand B/C pickup plow. Can you post pictures of all the parts you have ? We could then determine what is missing.

I have a few pictures of my two way plow siiting in the shed. They may help with what you need. If not let me know cause my plow is still hooked up on my "C". And yes it is fun to plow with it. You dont get alot done but it is fun. My set up is alittle different from the website pictures that are on the "B". I have to take my drawbar off to hook mine up. I hope this helps and if you need more i can get exact pics for you.

I wouldn't say the B C pick up plow is rare by any means. The drawbar is on in that website I posted because that is NOT a B C pick up plow. It is a Wiard plow. The B C plow uses it's own special drawbar connected to the final drive brackets and raised or lowered for depth control by a hand lever.

They are two way plows. They are very common here in Utah where farms were small and irrigated. All three of the B and cs I have had two way plows with them. You plowed from one side of the field back and forth and you had no dead furow in the center. If you had a B or a C you had a two way plow.

Here's a cross section from an early C plow manual. It doesn't show much about the two-way plow, but hopefully it will help you figure it out.

Your plow beam is definetly AC, however the share and moldboard do not look like AC.
The share appears to be a razor type. You may have a Wiard moldboard on the AC frame. I have seen that before. You should have a mount on either side of the front of the final drives, a drawbar then connects to the mounts, and a control lever that comes from the rear rock shaft front to the square tube, under the tube with a flat bar that would drop down and connect to the drawbar, used to regulate the depth of the plows.
I have also seen Oliver plow bottoms on a snap couple plow once at an auction
