Was there any change in the diesel engine in the ser one to the ser, four? I found a ser one d17 diesel and a d17 with a d19 lp . they do not run, but i was thinking about putting the diesel in my ser four gas.

The diesel is a 6 cylinder and will not fit in the frame of a gas. The sheet metal is different as well. Series ones used an oil bath air cleaner while series IVs have the dry filer element - new plumbing would be required. The tach would not work either - spins the other way.
I wouldn't bother with it. Your series IV is worth more in its original state.

Might cost you more to get the diesel running than it would to find one that already runs. Any major parts for the 262 diesel get pricey quick I learned that the hard way bought the tractor cheap with out looking up the parts prices first.

Also, the water pump is mounted on the head and on the series 3 & 4 it is mounted on the block like a D19.
