As was posted last week my Dad bought a nice RC that was parked in a barn since the 50s. This is a very original complete and unmolested specimen. One deviation from original was a neat 4 spoke wooden rim steering wheel off a twenty something Dodge Bros. truck. We got this tractor from the second owners son, who said when his dad bought the tractor used in the early 40s, he bought a proper steering wheel from the A-C dealer to replace the truck wheel. For what ever reason this RC steering wheel never got installed and was still hanging on a nail in the shed! This is a proper sized RC wheel, not a "will fit" WC wheel, and it even had the original hang tag with part number etc. wired to it. I found it interesting since A-C sourced these steering wheels from an outside vendor that it is painted Persian Orange rim & all, just like it would have been on a new tractor. I thought the replacement part would likely have been painted black. After hanging around since 1944 this steering wheel is going to be installed on the tractor! Kip

The RC wheel is a smaller diameter 15" vs 17" for a WC. Reproduction WC wheels are the larger size and will work on a RC but is not correct. Also most RC steering wheels had the hub & spokes covered the same as the rim. The steering wheel we have has the bare metal spokes like the very late RCs and Styled WCs.

Fred, ours does have the flat spot on the back side of the rim with Sheller on it. Is your NOS B/C/CA wheel painted rim & all like ours? Kip

Actually the B,C,and CA steering wheels are 15", the WC is 17", but the RC is 16". My RC, serial #686 has a 16" wheel, bare spokes, and I have no reason to believe it is not factory.

Most problems can be solved with the proper application of high explosives.

Thanks Ted! Yes it is 16". It was obvious it is smaller than our WCs. So the uncovered spokes could be correct on 1939 RC ser.#1175? I've seen pictures of other 1939 and some 1940 RCs with the covered spokes so perhaps A-C used both types of steering wheels indiscriminately during the production run of this model.

Right or wrong, I like it anyway on my RC #239. This wheel came off a 39 WC and it matches the smaller one on my 39B.
It is better than the car wheel that was on it when I bought the tractor.
