Dose the air cleaner on a wd-45 come apart? how do you get the packing out to clean? I don't know if I'm stupid or what but I can't figure it out.

Yes, they do come apart. Hard to explain and easier to show you. On the bottom there is a "grate" that keeps the wire wool from falling down and out. You have to bust or break loose three or four spot welds and the grate can be removed. Then you reach up inside and pull the first of three bundles of wire wool down and out. There is a nail that keeps each one bundles together. Pull out the nail and unroll each and wash out in solvent or whatever you can get all the dirt out with. Roll them back up like they were and stuff them back into the body. The body itself may also be plugged and packed with dirt do be sure it's worthy of clean wire wool. Reinstall the grate and I never worried about the spot welds.
