I'm getting ready to replace the seals in the rearend of my wc. I need to know where to get them and what to get. I'm also looking for a good quality manual or print off to help with this. This is the last part to go through before I start painting.

Thad-- vendor's on this site will have all you need, one thing I did that may help. The manual says that the oil/grease in the finals is to be 250 wt.-- I couldn't find any so I made up some of my own thick stuf useing 80/ 90 and no.2 chassis grease. The original seals were cork which have been replaiced with ones made of rubber but it's still a large area to seal. When looking at old WC's there is usually a large amount of buildup on the iner wheel rims from leakage and I suspect they leaked from day one.

The way to see you have the hubs on the correct side is to look for the stamped R or L, they are quite faint, sometimes hard to see even after wire brushing. Here is a picture after sand blasting but I needed to use a sharpy on it to get it to show up in the picture.
![]() The other way is to look at the spiral in the groove where the big seal goes and see if rolling forward would work oil out under the seal or work it back in. You can see the groove in this picture: ![]() These are RC pictures but the seals are the same. Here is a link to the pictures of this rear end going back together: http://home.comcast.net/~old_allis/ac-RC-chassis2.html Tom |

First let me say thanks to all who have helped me so far. I got rained out at work today and I tore into the right side. The seals I'm lookin for are on either side of the brake drum in the differential housing. I found that the big rubber seal that seals the hub on the right side is rubber and looks like new. I haven't opened the other side but it isn't near as clean and shows signs of leaking so I assume it's never been changed. The gears and bearings on the right side look good so I think seals and punch out some gaskits and the right side will be good to go. Then I'll go to the left side.

This is what I found tonight. The inner seal has a big OD but it has what looks like a spacer on it so it takes a smaller OD seal. I just want to make sure I get the correct seals when I order. The inner seal is national 6140 and the outer seal didn't have a name or number.
