WHAT IS YOUR EQUIPMENT GOING TO BE WORTH AFTER ORANGE GOES AWAY? NO OTHER DEALER WILL GIVE YOU SQUAT FOR TRADEIN DUE TO BEING OBSOLETE EQUIPMENT..NOW THAT I HAVE SAID THAT, YOUR ANTIQUES AC'S WILL ONLY GO UP IN PRICE NOW.... I WOULD LIKE TO SEE THE DAY A B OR C WILL BRING ON THE MARKET THAT SAME $3000.00 AS SOME FARMALLS AND JD'S OF SAME SIZE.... THIS WILL HELP RESALE ON OLDER EQUIP... BUT WHAT WILL YOU DECIDE ON FOR DEPRECIATION VALUES ON YOUR NEW GLEANER COMBINE YOU'VE JUST BOUGHT, AND WILL BE WORTH HALF AFTER THE BRAND IS DISBANDED???? HOW MUCH CAN YOU STAND TO BE UPSIDE DOWN IN YOUR EQUIPMENT LOANS AND WHAT WILL YOUR BANKERS SAY? YES ITS SIMPLE TO SAY AS A DEALER MY CUSTOMER WILL FLOCK IN AND BUY UP THE LAST OF THE AGCO'S BUT AS A CUSTOMER YOU SHOULD DO SOME SERIOUS THINKING BEFORE BUYING.... I HAD BOUGHT A BRAND NEW TN-75 W LOADER IN 05 IN 06 TRIED TO CHANGE IT OUT FOR SOMETHING A LITTLE SMALLER FOR MY SITUATION AND COULD ONLY GET HALF VALUE FOR IT IN ONE YEAR AND ONLY 600 HRS.... WATCH THESE CROOKS AND BE CAREFUL. WHATS YOUR TAKE ON THIS IN THE BIG PICTURE?

it's already been happening in this part of the country for years, doesn't matter what color it is, if you trade for a different color, dealer won't give you anything, but when it comes time to resell it on his lot...well you know... look at what olivers and minn molines are doing on some lots. the prices of older equipment is bringing close to top dollar on some consignment sales. as one larger farmer i know put it...why should he put a hired person in a brand new electronic piece of equipment (tractor/combine) just to abuse it? i have seen older ac's bring just as much as jd & case on some sales. as for being upside down on farm equipment...how about that new car or truck you just bought, you won't be able to trade that in at a different brand dealer for a compairable unit for the same price. all but one piece of my equipment is paid for, and am still using most all of it, i don't think i'm upside down on anything! guess it depends on if you want/need to trade every few years. i'm busy putting the cost of new equipment in my pocket. and i guess if i thought i needed another new tractor, i'd buy another older allis or agco. why? cuz i like 'em! and i know they are dependable. dealer networks also play a large part in resale of any brand equipment in any area. the more dealers, the price will stay up on new/used. that's where allis/agco messed up...forcing dealers out. i worked for allis chalmers back in the late 70's/early 80's, i saw some of the games they played with the dealers.

Trade in and buy new is tough decision. I didn't loose anything when I traded in my LT70 but got a good price on it to begin with. I'm looking to trade in my AGCO RT100 and so far it looks like I'll loose about $2,500 on trade with it which isn't bad. Question is, is the new piece I buy going to depreciate down to more than what I got?
I don't think AGCO/MF tractors will go down in value for a year or so but after that they will drop. Why? Cause their loosing dealers and will loose market share. There are A LOT of people who bought AGCO-Allis tractors because they were orange. Those people are saying bye. I don't think old AC's will appreciate in value. The rare ones already have and the others are going to loose parts availability. Your not getting new orange tractor lovers cause they'll be gone, (unless they get Kubota). So your working with a declining customer base and declining parts. And, besides the G, that's been replicated, what makes an old AC, (or any other brand), viable today? The 170-175's will still hold their own even with cheap Kubotas or JD's. But after the utility segment see ya. |

If I was a thinking farmer in the market for new machinery, Agco would be my last thought. If I was a Agco dealer, I would be sweating, big time, and trying to dream up some irrational thoughts about why one should buy new Agco machinery just before they quit making it.

I can't see as bright a long term future for the older antique tractors as you do. I think the rapid death of the family farm will someday have an adverse effect on the price of the equipment we grew up with. My son wasn't raised working on a farm and he just can't understand why I think so much of tractors. He never had a chance to work the fields and I'd say he probably represents a growing attitude of indifference in his and each succeeding generation. Hopefully we won't see it but someday scrap metal will be the fate of many tractors regardless of color.

I saw a MM G1000 sell for $21,000 at a sale. If I could get $21,000 for anything Allis Chalmers, I would be amazed.
New Holland was able to successfully continue without destroying it's legacy. I did some research, also. Fiat Group did buy out Case IH.( A lot of people refer to it as a "merger" but it was a buyout) So, in reality, they could have bought Case, and dropped all the blue tractors, and just sold red. The bi-directional tractors were produced for Ford and later New Holland by Versatile-Beuhler. All the big 4wd 300 hp tractors were built by versatile-beuhler. When NH bought Case, they wanted the Steiger built big tractors, so Beuhler took over Versatile and you can still buy the big Ford tractors that Versatile built in the 1990's. However... The original Ford FW 4wd tractors, built in the 1970's were actually Stieger Panthers and Cougars painted blue instead of green. So, They have come full circle, by providing the same tractors they used to provide(only with 40 years of design improvement). So, basically, it is possible for a foreign company to buy a US company and succeed in the US. They kept the red tractors red, and the blue tractors blue. They didn't mess with the name (keeping the yellow and red NH machinery, yellow and red) except for the agreed upon removal of the FORD name as per the buyout agreement. They are doing well. Agco hasn't been doing anything that has been an attention getter. The only ONLY thing that I give them credit for is keeping the Gleaner brand UNTOUCHED as of yet. If they messed with that, I am pretty sure I'd have to fly to Germany and punch somebody in their big fat sausage filled head. However, I wouldn't count on an Allis Chalmers B bringing $3000 at a sale. Prices are set by the buyers, and for as long as I have known, very very cheap people have had a fondness for orange. I haven't seen it lately, but on the old board, there was a ton of people beating up on other people over prices. Someone would ask a few thousand for something, and there would be 5 posts of people saying "that's too much." This probably comes from the fact that so many were produced, and so many are still around today. It's not like the WD WC or B C CA tractors are rare. About the only tractor I have seen more of are the Farmall H and M. and I can pick up a running useable M for $1000 right now. So... I just don't see it ever happening. |
