Hello. I am a new member as of today. Thanks for letting me join. I needed a place to vent after hearing about our pals at AGCO announcing that the orange tractor would soon be history. I realize that the orange color is the only thing connecting these tractors to the old Allis-Chalmers of yesteryear, but it gave us something current to link us to the past.I did send 2 nasty emails to AGCO and at first recieved the canned responses that they have been sending to everybody and figured that was it. Then the other day a rep from AGCO called me and wanted to talk and try to convince me that it has to be done, which I think is B.S. Anyway, he said that they have been getting a lot of feedback from the Allis faithful and that is being mentiond to the higher ups. I doubt it will change their minds but we need to go down swinging. He also says the Gleaner name isn't going away and that they actually have big plans in the works for the R series. Time will tell on that subject.

I'm not the one to write it, but I think that someone should write a letter to AGCO in which they list all of the innovations and 'firsts' that came to farm equipment courtesy of the Allis tractors.  They've selected the orange to go away, but it seems that orange had more to do with innovation and modernization of farming, than has Red or other colors.  I've seen a list on here of all of the 'firsts' that A/C made.  I'd love to see it again, and I think that AGCO needs to see it and understand why orange has a place in the future too.

Welcome to the forum.  Great place here with great guys and gals.  

I'm as ticked as anyone.  I think Allis died when AGCO got their current CEO and some of the old Allis employees that started AGCO died in a plane crash.  Whoever thinks Allis died in the 80's never talked to some of the early AGCO employees cause they were all old allis people.  Yes the 8000 and 6000 series died which was dumb for Deutz to do but they wouldn't be alive now anyway even if AC continued on.  Either way, I'm either going CNH or Kubota now.  CNH gave me a good starting price I just gotta think on it now.  I've bought a lot of AGCO equipment, including my Sunflower no-till drill, because of Allis Chalmers and now I feel betrayed so I'm gone.

BTW - I have yet to here a reason for getting rid of AGCO orange tractors that doesn't contradict Challenger, what they do for country of Brazil and now for China.  They will be small time in the US in the future.

I agree with the above, but it's strictly business, just like when General Motors decided to drop Oldsmobile because it had a stodgy image, at the time they had the Aurora, Intrigue, and Alero, and their engine was doing well at Indy, but the boys in Detroit said, dump it, and let's keep Buick, now talk about a stodgy image, what comes to mind when you think Buick?? The GS? Maybe, but more than likely, it will be a brown turd that your great Aunt drove faithfully for fifteen years. The real reason is profitability and marketability, I love my Allis tractors, but like it or not, Massey has a larger presence around the globe, and contrary to some opinions on here, they were not junk. Let's keep the Allis name alive for what it is, and let AGCO go their own way, ultimately, that's what is going to happen anyway.

If Agco is going to insist that all of us die-hard orange fans switch brands, I guess we will. But, I can assure you that many, if not most, of us will switch to a non Agco brand. I will be hoping to find a company that values loyalty, and doesn't insist on yanking their customers around any old time they feel like it.
Remember: The customer is always right. If you don't understand that, all you have are EX customers.
I don't have any love for Massey. The cat dealers that handle Challenger are too huge generally, and don't convey the message that they give a rip about my business.
If it weren't for the last minute, I wouldn't get anything done!

as much as I hate the idea, I guess that leaves Deere. Uggghh. I don't think I can stomach that. Gotta weigh my options I guess. I no longer feel the need to be loyal to Agco.  I am still going to collect and enjoy my Allis Chalmers stuff, but my newer stuff isn't necessarily going to be MF red or Challenger yeller. I don't care for Richenhagen and crew bullying me around. Kinda sticks in my craw.

Tenneco made the decision for Case tractors to be painted red. Mainly due to loyal IHC customers raising a fuss. I am sure the J.I. Case followers weren't pleased either. But Case didn't lose their name entirely.

I think the reason why Jerome's tractors took on the IH paint was that in about 1983 or 84, the paint contained lead, so they switched to black and white paint, instead of red or orange-ish red(not sure the offical color name for the case machines).  Then, the whole aquisition of IH happened and the first Case tractors were painted red again (but this time, a new shade of corporate red)

First, Ford aquired New Holland equipment line, since most of their implements were already being made by other companies (such as Gehl, and New Idea) and ust slapped with blue paint.  That was mid 1980's I think.  Then, Billy Ford Sr., the demon spawn of the Ford family who has no ties to Ford tractor heritage, nor cared about his Great Grandfather's farming past, decided to sell Ford New Holland to Fiat.  Fiat wanted to keep the color, and the Ford name.  The Ford name is huge in Eastern Europe, when it comes to tractors.  So, Billy Ford let them have the name "Ford" for a transitional period from about 1990 until 2000, at which time, nothing was allowed to say "Ford" on it anymore.  So, in a way, Billy Ford Sr. was the one who prevented Fiat from carrying the Ford name.  Instead, Fiat used the New Holland name, and kept the colors of the New Holland equip  and Ford tractors, but everything beared the New Holland name.  The entire time, Fiat has produced their own tractors, which are, identical to the New Holland machines, but painted red.  (nt sure if they recently stopped doing this, I have been slightly out of the loop on this stuff)

Now, as for the merger between Fiat Group(New Holland) and Case IH...   I didn't get any details on that.  I do know that it was a merger and not an aquisition.  It also happened in 1999, before the official end of the "Ford" named tractors. If you go to buy new parts for either a red or blue tractor, the parts packaging now says, "Fiat Group" on it somewhere, so I am going to say that in time, there might be some sort of switch where all the red adn blue tractors will someday say "Fiat" on them again. It will just be a matter of time before the company execs decide to put their name on the brand. They said when the nerger happened that they didn't want to upset any customers by removing either the red, nor blue tractors, but if you give it enough time, and the wrong owner, it will happen someday(and probably soon)

Just be thankful there is public outcry over this. When Slick Billy Ford Sr.  sold out, there was no internet forums for customers to complain, and things were not so publically discussed with less customer input...  Then Again...  Billy Ford Jr. didn't care about the customers anyway.  He grew up with his Mustangs and other Ford muscle cars, and not with Ford tractors. He never sat in a tree house thinking of designs for farm equipment and tractors, and I don't believe he has ever had the yearning to till the land like Henry.
