I just got a heck of a deal on a wd45, a friend of mine really helped me out with this one. He bought it at an auction to get the stack weights off the front then passed the tractor on to me for 550.00! It runs and drives great...has power steering, snap coupler, one way hydraulics, 14.9x28 rear tires in 80% shape with slight weather checking on side walls, and straight tin. Power steering reservoir leaks when running, probably a hose or fill cap havnt checked it out yet. But I have a few questions, first off it's serial is 177394 so that makes it a 1954? Also it has power steering, is this factory or aftermarket? And to round out my first set of questions, the rear tires are loaded and starting to seep at the valve stems, whats the easiest way to drain em, and then i want to replace the tubes and just fill em with air, no chloride anymore, don;t want to chance rotting out the good rear rims. Thanks for any insight on my new toy.

If you've only got $550 into the tractor, pay the service call and have it done

You did good on this one. Yes, I'd get the tire work done asap and save the rims.
You have alot of tractor for the $$$$ invested. good job!! And yes the power steering is after market charlynn unit, They work good to. Is your P S tank round and on the top left side of engine?

To drain just air up the tire then rotate valve to bottom, remove valve core and a few hours later it will be empty enough to remove tire and rim. Also jack up and block rear axle before taking off the wheel. Hee, hee. Find a good sturgy tree. Roll tire to tree. Use come-along and lift tire off ground. Back truck or trailer under tire and let it down. Drive it to tire store and let them get-er-done. But a front end loader would be much easier. Trouble is I was alone and didn't have one. LOL Nice tractor!

Jeff. good for you! That looks like a great one. Looks as though the leak you mention is a hose or connection up under the hood....if so, it oughta be fairly easy to fix. Have fun and keep us posted!

Get the tire man to come out and fix it or you could jack up the rear and rotate valve to top. Remove and install a new one and see if that's all it needed. If it were mine that's what I'd do first AND I'd keep the fluid. It makes the tractor much more useful and if you ever decide to show up to a plow day with it you'd actually be able to plow. Up to you.

The local farm tire shop will remove cloride from tires but will not put it back in. They will but in the beat juice. You might have to buy new tubes. Also the inside of the rims might be in bad shape. The front tires on my D-10 weeping. I took them in and one we cleaned up, the other one had to be replaced. They both looked good on the outside.
Check the front tires they might be loaded also. Dusty Dusty

I concur with Lonn, I'd keep the fluid if you ever want to use the tractor. Bought a D17 that never had fluid in the tires. Wheels were in great condition, but there was no traction, even with the weights I put on. Got new tires, tubes and had fluid put in, now it's got good traction. The weight makes quite a bit of difference and if you put new tubes in, you should be able to protect the wheels for another 50 years or so.

I agree with Dave. The only time the fluid will rust a rim is if you have a leak. Just fix the leak and no more rust worries. Also make sure to wash them clean after working with the fluid.

I think we are going to drain and clean rims and replace tubes ourselves...if i need ballast later i might consider beet juice, but my main job for this tractor with hand clutch will be running the AC 60 ...WC will handle the gravity wagon tasks

Don(MO) Ps tank is round, about the size of a coffee can, maybe a tad smaller, and about half as tall as a coffee can and it's mounted under the hood on the right side of the engine via a bracket on the valve cover
